The Children's Fund was founded in 1973 as a grassroots effort by social workers to assist foster and low-income children in San Mateo County and provide them with goods and services that are not available through public funds. Since then, our program has grown tremendously and now runs three seasonal and three year-round programs, supporting thousands of children each year, and making sure that t
he neediest children in our County are receiving goods and services that will allow them to succeed and thrive. Each year, we serve 4,500 low-income and foster children, newborns to age 18, in San Mateo County. We work with social workers, case managers, and public health professionals to reach the children. Typically, the children we serve are enrolled in County programs such as child welfare, child protective services, behavioral and mental health, juvenile probation, and Head Start. Our three year-round programs are: 1) Computers for Kids- provide refurbished computers for homework help and college applications to low-income and foster children. 2) Orthodontia Treatments- fund necessary orthodontia treatment to children who are desperate for care. 3) Bundles for Babies- provides gently used baby clothing to very low-income mothers in the County. We also run three large seasonal programs: 1) Backpack & School Supplies- helping every child start the school year prepared and ready to learn. 2) Halloween Costumes- every child deserves to participate in this childhood holiday. 3) Holiday Gift Program- This is our largest program and provides holiday smiles to children throughout the county. The Children’s Fund program is hosted by the San Mateo County Human Services Agency and they cover all of our administrative and operational costs. Therefore, 100% of every donation goes directly to children in need. For more information, email [email protected] or call 650-802-5152
