After more than two decades of service to keeping our community safe, Plainfield Township Fire Department member Lt. John Denemy is starting a new chapter in his life. Happy retirement, John!

After more than 20 years of dedicated service, Lieutenant John Denemy is working his final shift as a full-time member of Plainfield Township Fire Department.

John’s impact on the fire service can be seen in the generations of firefighters he has helped teach, mentor, and develop throughout his career. His commitment to passing along his knowledge will continue as Course Manager for the North Kent Fire Academy and a CPR instructor.

Please join us in congratulating Lt. Denemy on his retirement and thanking him for more than two decades of service to PFD and the community!

With Labor Day long past, it's pool draining time! To protect the environment, the Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds - Grand Valley Metro Council suggests these three simple steps:

1: Dechlorinate. Stop adding chlorine and expose your pool to sunlight for two weeks while the pump is running, or use a dechlorination product.

2: Infiltrate. Find a natural area on your property and slowly pump pool water into the area, allowing it to soak into the ground.

3: Storm Grate. If you don't have a natural area available, slowly pump dechlorinated pool water into a storm drain. (Salt water pool discharges are prohibited!) Don't forget step 1, as failure to remove chlorine or sediment from pool water before draining may result in fines.

Reminder: The deadline for paying summer taxes is Monday, September 14!
Summer Tax Facts:
🔹 While you pay your summer taxes to the Township, the Township does not keep those funds. State law requires us to distribute the funds to other taxing agencies, including the State of Michigan, Kent County, and Grand Rapids Community College.
🔹 Residents can pay online, over the phone, in person, or by using the secure drop box located in front of Township Hall. We do not recommend mailing your payment at this time because it will likely arrive after the deadline.
🔹 Property tax autopay is no longer available. You can still go online to schedule a one-time payment through MyPlainfield.

🐾 It took K9 Maverick less than 30 seconds to sniff out the scent of drugs at our recent Coffee with a Cop!

Maverick is a hard-working police dog with Kent County Sheriff's Office. He keeps the county jail safe with his amazing nose, which has way more smell power than a human’s. He even follows commands in three different languages!

But Maverick isn’t all business. Peanut butter and plenty of pets rank high on his favorites list.
