*** It's Fun Fact Friday!!! ***

In the winter, we are often tasked with pulling water from a static source, such as a pond or lake. When we do this, we drill holes in the ice to allow for atmospheric pressure to make contact with the water, resulting in a successful “draft”, when the pump on the apparatus is primed.

Recently Belmont Fire purchased a new ice auger that is used to make these holes. Having an auger makes the job of cutting or drilling holes in the ice much easier, giving the crew more time to focus on other jobs at an emergency scene!
