Salute to Allegany County Veterans

Calling all veterans involved in farming or agriculture, whether for personal use or as a business, we appreciate your service and would like to invite you to particpate in a brief survey.

We would like to introduce a new VA initiative called Cultivating Care for Veterans in Agriculture, which is a VA-funded project designed to co-create a multi-level, community-based su***de prevention program with Veterans working in agriculture including farming, ranching, forestry, and/or fishing.

The VA is in the data collection/analysis phase of the project and are asking for our support by completing a brief 10-minute survey intended to improve availability of services for veterans in agriculture. The results of this survey will be used to improve availability of mental health services for Veterans working in Agriculture. The VA is looking for veterans whose primary occupation or the sector in which you work the most to be farming, ranching, fishing or forestry.

What an amazing day! We had the privilege today to honor the memory of America’s Heroes who have fallen in service to their country in a meaningful way!

In partnership with Alfred State, the Allegany County Veterans Dwyer Program brought together veterans, active duty, members of the Allegany Sheriff’s Department and Troopers from our County for the Murph Challenge 2026 to honor the memory of those who sacrificed all in service to their country but also raise money for Navy Seal Lt. Michael Murphy Foundation to give scholarships to the children of the fallen to go to college!

Thank you to all who participated! Thank you to all who gave the last full measure! You are all true American Heroes!!!

This weekend we honor all those who gave the last full measure in service to their country by paying the ultimate price.

Many will picnic and party with friends and family, which is okay, but please take just a brief moment during that time and remember the true cost of freedom that has been paid!

Take time out from your weekend and on Monday, find a local memorial to our fallen going on across Allegany County and join us in honoring and remembering those who gave all in service to their country!
