Belmont for Democracy in-person phone banks are held in fellow volunteers' homes and are fun and social. Location information will be provided prior to each phone bank. This past Sunday Belmont for Belmont For Democracy volunteers gathered once again to protect our American rights and freedoms. This time we had an opportunity to speak with Georgia voters who had moved in the past 18 months and must re-register in order to participate in this year's general election. Once again, it was time well-spent in so many ways:

- 39 voters, all of whom had relocated within Georgia and would need to re-register in order to vote in November, now have links that will allow them to quickly and easily re-register online.

- a good number of those voters asked if the same links could be used by other family members so they could re-register too. The answer: YES!

- There's nothing like helping someone preserve their right to vote and knowing it matters to them. We got thank-yous and some voters shared personal stories with us. One woman said she was holding her baby as she spoke on the phone. A man shared that he'd been in temporary housing and only just this past Friday had he been able to move into a permanent home.

- And yes, we welcomed two more first-timers who promised to be back with us soon. And nobody could resist the brownies. :)

Help preserve democracy - join our phone bank on 4/16 and/or 4/21

This month Belmont for Democracy is continuing to focus on recruiting fellow volunteers in the all-important battleground state of Wisconsin. This past Sunday afternoon our team

• recruited 28 new volunteers who have agreed to meet with local field organizers

• welcomed a first-time phone banker who has already agreed to join us again later this month!

• enjoyed some absolutely killer brownies and other snacks provided by our generous hosts - thank you Linda and Jeff!

That's right. On average, each of us recruited four new volunteers over the course of about 2 hours. Each of these new volunteers will potentially be contributing tens of hours of their time (or maybe even more) over the course of the next seven months. Talk about getting a big return for the time each of us invested in that one phone bank event!

Help put Wisconsin in the WIN column for democracy when November rolls around!

Join fellow Belmont MA residents at an in-person phone bank. Our goal: help build the strongest possible grassroots campaign in this critical battleground state. Depending on campaign priorities we may be connecting volunteers with opportunities to take action, asking known supporters to volunteer, and/or confirming the support of probable Biden/Harris voters. Our conversations mean so much at this early stage of the campaign. Each volunteer we recruit will be contributing their effort to the campaign for seven months. Think of the difference every one of YOUR calls can make!

Our next two phone banks will be held on Thursday, April 4 6-8:30pm and Sunday, April 7, 2:30-5pm.

Our phone banking system is very easy to use. It dials voters using its own phone number and feeds us with calls that already have a voter on the other end, ready to hear us say “hello!” You will need to bring a laptop or tablet. A hands-free headset is encouraged but not required.

Training and good company will be provided. See you there!

Sign ups are open for our next two in-person phone banks!

- Sunday, March 17, 2:30-5:00pm
- Thursday, March 28, 6:00-8:30pm

We’ll be contacting probable Biden/Harris voters in Wisconsin to evaluate their support (“Voter ID calls”) and asking definite supporters to volunteer. As a battleground state, it’s especially important to know who in Wisconsin is willing to vote in support of democracy and against authoritarianism. It's equally important to have as many volunteers as possible joining us now, with the bulk of the campaign season before us, in the fight to preserve our democracy.

We’ll provide training at the start of our phone bank. We’ll be using an easy-to-use phone banking system that dials voters using its own phone number and feeds us with calls that already have a voter on the other end, ready to hear us say “hello!”

These will be easy conversations, a great way to start the campaign season, and perfect for newcomers and old hands alike. If you’ve never phone banked in-person, join us and find out how social and fun it can be!
