Doug Sellers is an actor, playwright, and screenwriter based in Portland, Oregon. He just completed his debut novel, The Road to Belmont, a work of historical fiction inspired by family lore, documented history, and the untold struggles of women in the early American West. As he grew up, his grandparents filled him with real stories about his great-great grandmother, her remarkable life and her saloon, the Cosmopolitan in Belmont, Nevada. He was in awe that he had a living connection to the Old West, and cherished every piece of history he was able to discover. Through his historic research and interviews with great-aunts and uncles, as well as Rose Walter, The Road to Belmont was born.

Doug will be in Belmont on July 3 and 4 with copies of his book available for you to purchase. Be sure to take one home for your personal library. A portion of each book sale will benefit the Friends of the Belmont Courthouse and their restoration efforts.

The reconstruction of the back wall of the jail is on track to be completed by our 150th anniversary celebration on July 4. The original foundation stones have been put in place, and a cement footing was poured. Thank you to volunteer Aaron Hiibel for this great shot! The engraved bricks (160 sold so far!) many of you purchased will be placed on the back wall inside.

We caught up with Jackie Boor, great-granddaughter of Sheriff Tom Logan and granddaughter of his daughter, Hazel Logan Barton, in Tonopah yesterday evening. Jackie is in town for the annual Jim Butler Days celebration, where she'll host several signing events for her book "Logan: The Honorable Life and Scandalous Death of a Western Lawman". She brought with her this amazing history collage, which she gifted to Friends of the Belmont Courthouse. These artifacts, all from Belmont, were collected by Hazel's daughter, Dorothy, and assembled by her daughter Helen in 1972 as a memento of her childhood days in Belmont.

Pictured with Jackie are Nye County Commission liaison Bruce Jabbour, FOTBCH board chair (and Nye County District Attorney) Brian Kunzi, and FOTBCH board member Stretch Baker.

This wonderful collection will be on permanent display inside the Belmont Courthouse. Jackie, thank you so much for this thoughtful gift! Here's a bit of trivia for you to enjoy on this beautiful Friday morning: Tom Logan was the last sheriff whose office was in the Belmont Courthouse, and the first sheriff whose office was in the Tonopah Courthouse!

We received a lovely $90 check in this morning's mail from Tom and Phyllis Cates of Reno in honor of Tony Limon's 90th birthday. Tony was a member of the Tonopah Muckers basketball team when they won state in 1954. If you know Tony, be sure to wish him a happy birthday. And to Tom and Phyllis, what a wonderful way to honor such a special guy!

We are so grateful to the absolutely wonderful volunteers we've had over the years. They've donated their time, their money, and sometimes their possessions to help move toward our goal of restoring and preserving one of Nye County's and the State of Nevada's historic jewels. Some of these volunteers will be recognized when we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the dedication of the Belmont Courthouse on July 4. We hope you can be there!

The next floor up for replacement is in the District Court Judge's office, located on the second floor of the Belmont Courthouse. We are thrilled to report that the Breen Family, descendants of the original Judge Peter Breen, have committed to provide the $5,584 needed for labor and materials! Thank you!! Our dear friend, Frances Breen Terras, is a granddaughter of the original Judge Breen. ❤️
