From the nonpartisan Cook Political: The once-sleepy special election in Tennessee’s 7th District has reached a fever pitch. Outside groups affiliated with both parties have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads just in the past week, the 2024 presidential nominees have made in-person and virtual stops on the campaign trail, and a number of national media outlets have now covered the contest.

The 7th District, which stretches from downtown Nashville into rural Middle Tennessee, wouldn’t be competitive under normal circumstances — President Donald Trump carried it by 22 points in 2024 and 15 points in 2020. But two weeks ago, we shifted our rating of his race from Solid to Likely Republican, reflecting the slim possibility that Democratic state Rep. Aftyn Behn could pull off an upset due to anemic Republican turnout next Tuesday.
