On June 1, 2026 we lost Police and Fire Commissioner Clinton Thornton. What an incredible person who always had positive words and support for both the Police and Fire Departments. Commissioner Thornton worked for the Bellwood Fire Department for over 20 years until he retired. It was a great honor not only hearing his wise words when I was a young Officer but then as a Chief. He will missed and never forgotten.

Attended the Bellwood Publuc Library Summer Reading Kickoff with Mayor Harvey and Commissioner Stewart. Had a great time meeting the staff and sampling food at the taco and snow cone trucks. Stop by and enjoy the facility and joy the many events going on throughout the summer.

On April 27, 2026 Officer Rasheka Norwood was a featured guest at Young Scholars Professional Day at North Lawndale College Prep in Chicago. Officer Norwood spoke to a small group of students who many are first-generaltion college bound and shared her career journey, current role, lessons learned and answered students questions with discussion. Officer Norwood is a Proviso West High School, Western Illinois University (B.S. Criminal Justice, Political Science), and Aurora University (M.S. Social Work) graduate. The Bellwood Department is proud of her willingness to volunteer her time to help our youth and be a good example in the community.

On April 26, 2026 I participated in the Lions Helen Keller 5K Run & Walk at Richards High School in Oak Lawn. I participated as a member of the Bellwood Lions Club/Bellwood Police Department with Dr. Cabello of the Chicago Eye Center located on St. Charles Road in Bellwood. We came in 1st and 2nd in our age group. The Bellwood Lions Club has been in existance since 1947 and is a big supporter of many events in Bellwood. Can't wait until next year.
