On this day, Excelsior Fire Company would like to honor Bellwood resident Garrett Barbosa who answered the call of duty on September 11, 2001 as a member of FDNY Engine 62. He spent many days at Ground Zero searching for his lost brothers and sisters and all the others who were lost on that day. It’s a burden he will carry the rest of his life. Garrett has been a friend of Excelsior for many years. He has shared his story and testimony many times over the years with different groups. Garrett is a humble man of strong faith in God who will do anything to help, serve and protect others. He is a true “Sheepdog”. We at Excelsior ask that you take a pause today from your daily routine and reflect on what this day in history truly means and remember the great sacrifice and lose we suffered that day as a nation. As more years pass, we cannot forget. May God Bless and protect America!

On 9 September 2026 at 12:40 AM, Excelsior Fire Company Station 22 was dispatched to assist Sinking Valley Station 24 for a Commercial Building Fire at an Amish work shop building on Windy Acres Lane in Tyrone Twp. Blair 911 advised they were receiving multiple calls for a building on fire. Engine 22, Quint 22, Tanker 22, Squad 22 all responded on the alarm. Engine 24 arrived on scene and confirmed reports of a large commercial building fully involved. The building had already started collapsing in on itself so a defensive exterior attack was initiated while protecting nearby structures. Additional tankers were requested to shuttle water to the scene to support suppression operations. An excavator was called in to assist units with putting out hot spots and hidden pockets of fire in the debris. Units worked on scene for several hours and returned safely.
