The roads in Bells this morning are still covered with thick ice. Please do not get out until it is absolutely necessary. If you must get out, 4 Wheel Drive trucks with good all terrain tires would be the way to get around. The temps are supposed to get above freezing for a few hours today. Hopefully it will clear by he roads enough. Just remember temps are going to drop below freezing again tonight.

Roadway Safety Advisory

While sunshine on Monday helped clear some ice from major roadways like Highway 75 and Highway 82, conditions have changed overnight. Temperatures dropped well below freezing, causing moisture left on road surfaces to refreeze.

As a result, some roadways may appear clear but still contain dangerous ice patches, especially on bridges, overpasses, shaded areas, and less-traveled lanes.

Please continue to drive slowly, increase following distance, and use extreme caution. If you do not absolutely need to travel, the safest option is to stay home until conditions improve.

Your safety, and the safety of others, is the priority.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE
Grayson County

Winter weather is expected to worsen throughout the day today (Friday), with freezing rain, sleet, and snow possible into Friday night and Saturday. Road conditions may deteriorate quickly, especially on bridges and overpasses.

What you should do today:
• Avoid unnecessary travel, especially later today and overnight
• Finish preparations early and stay off the roads once conditions decline
• Charge phones and backup power devices
• Check on elderly neighbors, family, and those with medical needs
• Protect exposed pipes and ensure pets have warm shelter

If freezing rain or sleet develops, even short trips can become dangerous. Please use extra caution and allow first responders and road crews room to work.

Stay informed by monitoring official updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency notifications.

With the cold weather coming in, please pay attention to the current forecasts. Open your cabinets that have water pipes in them, to keep them from freezing and cover your outside faucets. Ensure to let your pets inside. We hope that the power does not go out but, in the case that it does, we hope that these new generators keep the water flowing in your homes. If you end up with any water or sewer issues, please call the Public Works "On Call" phone at 903-357-3350. Stay warm and safe. If the roads get icy, please do not get out unless you absolutely have to.

With the possible weather moving in this weekend, I would also recommend winterizing your water pipes and outdoor faucets. Don’t let your pets stay outside too long. Our Public Works Department will be working hard this week making sure all water wells and sewer systems are winterized.

Now's as good a time as any. Make sure you are utilizing the "warmer" weather today-Thursday to prepare for the possible winter storm!
