We can't decide if we want to do "Way Back Wednesday" or "Throwback Thursday". While we're figuring it all out, here's another "DID YOU KNOW?"

Not that long ago, Bellmead had its own public swimming pool! 🏊🏊‍♀️

We would love to hear about your summer fun at the pool! Please share your stories and photos in the comments.

This photo hangs in our business office here at the Civic Center.

Thank you to those who messaged to ask about it!

Check out some of Bellmead’s hidden history!

Did you know, before Bellmead was even Bellmead, we once had our very own neighborhood movie theater?

On December 21, 1945, almost ten years before Bellmead reincorporated as a city, the La Vega Theater opened its doors at 3008 Corsicana Highway. With seating for more than 500 moviegoers, it quickly became a gathering place for families, friends, and date nights during the post-war boom years.

The Bellmead area was rapidly growing during this era. With Waco Army Air Field opening in 1942 and the Katy Railroad Shop going strong, places like the La Vega Theater became part of the community’s identity.

The theater operated through the 1950s before eventually closing, with records showing advertisements running into 1958. There are indications that it operated as the Jubilee, hosting live music and dancing into the late 1960s-early 1970s. The building has been repurposed many times over the years, but the unmistakable facade still exists.

Do you or your family remember going to the La Vega Theater or have information to share about other pieces of Bellmead’s hidden history? Share your memories and photos in the comments.
