Last night’s school board meeting included several special recognitions. We honored our student school board representatives, recent MHS graduate Logan Ignacio and incoming senior Eden Bernardy, for their service and leadership.

The board, along with several former board members, also recognized Dr. James Everett for his dedication to Meridian School District and wished him well as he begins his new role with Anacortes School District.

Finally, Dr. Kurt Harvill took the oath of office to serve as Interim Superintendent for the upcoming school year.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating these important milestones. We have much to be proud of in Meridian!

Last weekend, Meridian students Aliza, Audrey and Olivia proudly presented their documentary at the National History Day competition in Washington, D.C. While they did not advance, they were strong contenders who represented Meridian School District with excellence and pride. Beyond the competition, they connected with students from across the country and around the world, traded state buttons, and listened to inspiring speakers. The experience has already sparked excitement for next year’s theme and future projects. Thank you to everyone who supported these students, we are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what they do next!

June 17: The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a training in the MP3 parking lot at 10 a.m. and later at Meridian High School from 4-6 p.m. During this time you will see law enforcement presence at the schools. This is only a training exercise.

School's out for summer! Visit the link for our summer hours. Reminder that the family center food pantry will be open Wednesdays 2-5 p.m. Enjoy the sunshine!

Summer Hours and Information School offices will be open through June 17 and then closed for the summer. All school offices reopen on Thursday, Aug. 20. Our final big celebration of the school year was one to remember as we honored our 8th grade promotion at Meridian Middle School! We are so proud of these students and all they’ve accomplished. We can’t wait to welcome them to Meridian High School next year!

Yesterday we had the honor of celebrating Darla Hostutler, Steve Lawrence, Don McMains and Roberto Santana as they retire this year. Each of them has made a lasting impact on our schools. Please join us in thanking them for their service and wishing them all the best in this next chapter!

Caps off to our IRE kindergarten graduates! Ms. Perry’s and Ms. Johnson’s classes filled the room with song, smiles and big dreams of becoming animal rescuers, teachers, police officers, gold miners and more when they grow up. Congratulations, graduates!

Our current 8th graders spent the morning getting a head start on their transition to Meridian High School. Students gathered in the auditorium for introductions before breaking into groups, where our high school leadership students and teacher Patrick Ames answered questions. They also toured the campus to get familiar with their new surroundings so they can walk in with confidence this fall. We are so excited to welcome this amazing group of incoming freshmen next year!
