Learning that your child has a developmental delay, disability, or chronic health need can be a traumatic experience. Parents have many questions and concerns in coping with their child's needs and their own feelings. Personal support from another parent, who has a child with similar needs, can be helpful in coping with these challenging experiences and feelings. “Helping Parents” (volunteer mentors) are available to provide support and information.

Wandering can happen quickly and silently — but preparation can save lives. 💙

Simple safeguards like secure locks, ID tools, trusted neighbors, safety skills, and a clear emergency plan can help protect children and adults with autism at home and in the community.

Most importantly: if someone is missing, search nearby water first and call 911 immediately.

Find more autism safety resources on our website. Link in the comments and our bio.

“We got the voucher… now what?”

If you have just received a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher, congratulations — and take a breath. The next steps matter, and you don't have to figure them out alone.

Here's what to do:

1. Read your voucher packet carefully, noting timelines and deadlines

2. Understand your payment standard

3. Start your housing search right away and keep a log of every contact.

4. Ask about reasonable accommodations

Our Benefits and Housing Review walks families through the things mentioned here and more. Our free monthly webinars on Zoom are also a great place to start. 💻

Have a voucher question? Send us a message — we respond to every one as quickly as possible.

Grief and joy are often painted as opposites, but the reality of the parenting journey—especially when navigating unique challenges—is that they frequently walk hand-in-hand.

You can feel deep gratitude for a beautiful moment while still carrying the weight of what is difficult. Both emotions are valid, both belong, and both can live in the exact same heart at the exact same time. 💛💙

To every parent holding both today: you are not alone. Parent to Parent is here to walk with you through it all.
