(1)

Learning that your child has a developmental delay, disability, or chronic health need can be a traumatic experience. Parents have many questions and concerns in coping with their child's needs and their own feelings. Personal support from another parent, who has a child with similar needs, can be helpful in coping with these challenging experiences and feelings. “Helping Parents” (volunteer mentors) are available to provide support and information.

Navigating complex disability and healthcare systems can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to do it alone.

📖 A narrative literature review from Parent to Parent USA synthesizes 40 years of research (1985–2025), showing that access to peer support significantly reduces caregiver isolation and empowers parents with greater confidence when navigating school, medical, and community systems.

Take a breath today. We’re here to connect you with a parent who truly understands. 💙

Autistic Parents Virtual Connection Group Coming in October!

The Autistic Parents Virtual Connection Group, hosted by the Autism Society of Washington (ASW), is a safe and supportive space for Autistic parents and caregivers across Washington State.

Parenting as an Autistic person comes with both unique joys and unique challenges. This group is being created so none of us has to walk this journey alone. Whether you want to share your story, ask questions, listen, or simply connect with other Autistic parents and caregivers, you belong here.

We’re looking at dates to get the group started in early October. Many people shared that September is still a transition month as everyone gets back into the school routine, so we decided October would be a better time to start.

All Autistic parents/caregivers are welcome, whether diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or simply curious about their own neurodivergence.

In our group, you’ll find:

A community that celebrates Autistic voices and lived experience

Opportunities to share parenting strategies, challenges, and successes

A welcoming space where different communication styles and participation levels are respected

A chance to connect with other Autistic parents and caregivers across Washington

We’re really excited to get this group started and create a place where we can connect, share, support each other, and learn together.

If you’re interested in joining, please email [email protected] to get on the email list and receive updates about the first meeting.

The response to this alert was phenomenal. Across the state, parents, other caregivers, and their allies spoke up. The Arc of Washington State was able to negotiate a new contract, and services will continue for the more than 25,000 families supported annually - in every county in the state.

Raising a child with a developmental disability can be isolating. This program helps.

Big thanks to the 44 legislators who signed on to a bipartisan letter in support. You can read about that here, https://bit.ly/P2P_letter
