To all friends family and neighbors,

Just an update on our efforts to pass our Maintenance and Operations Levy. We have been out in the district putting up signs, waving signs, and talking with our neighbors. We are receiving amazing support from the community we've spoken to.

However we still have a lot of work to do. We will need to continue spreading the word about the M&O levy until the February 9 deadline. We hope to educate as many District 8 voters as we can in the next two weeks. To do this we need our members and alumni to make every effort to get involved. For family and friends we ask that you help start the conversation about the upcoming vote on social media and with friends/family in the area.

We are facing a $120,000 budget shortfall if we can't get the support of our voters. This amount of money dictates how effectively we can staff our stations. To be clear 911 will still respond, but it will be coming from stations farther away. This levy means we can financially support our staffing model and keep stations open. For more information please visit:

Please help us in our efforts to pass this pivotal vote. Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

MFFA

When the citizens of Fire District 8 have an emergency they call 9-1-1. But who does the Fire District call when they need help? They call on the citizens!
Since 1958 Fire District 8 (also known as the Marietta Fire Department) has been serving the community with a primarily volunteer force. However, as the requirements for firefighting and emergency medicine have increased our volunteer forces have been dwindling. This loss of volunteers coupled with caps on funding increases have created a situation where the District’s finances can no longer keep up with the expenses of running the department.
The Fire District needs your help in passing our upcoming Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Levy. On February 9th, the voters of Marietta and Gooseberry Point will be asked to pass a 4 year M&O levy to help generate additional funds to provide stable fire department staffing for the area.
In the last 6 months of 2015 the department has had to close the Bennett Dr. station 29 different times due to lack of staffing. In addition to these closures they have had reduced staffing (2 firefighters instead of 3) at the MacKenzie Rd. station.
Passing the levy will provide the Fire District with an additional $305,000 to $335,000 each year during the 4 year levy. This levy means property taxes will rise approximately $11.75 per month for the owner of a $300,000 home.
Your fire department needs your help! In order to be successful we need 60% of the voters to vote yes for the levy. Please “respond” to this 9-1-1 request by voting yes for the Fire District 8 M&O levy!
