Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day — phones, laptops, e-bikes, power tools, and toys. But when used improperly or damaged, these batteries can overheat, catch fire, or even explode.

👉 𝟑 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬: 𝐁𝐔𝐘 • 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐄 • 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐘𝐂𝐋𝐄

𝟏. 𝐁𝐮𝐲 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬
Look for safety certifications when purchasing batteries or battery-powered devices such as UL, ETL, or CSA.

𝟐. 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞

- Use the charger that came with the device or one recommended by the manufacturer.

- Charge batteries on a hard, flat surface — not on beds, couches, or under pillows.

- Don’t overcharge. Unplug the device or remove the battery when it’s fully charged.

𝟑. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐲
Never toss lithium-ion batteries in the trash or standard recycling bins. Take them to a proper battery recycling center. Visit call2recycle.org to find a recycling spot near you.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation during the burn ban period. With improved weather conditions and reduced fire risk, residents are will soon be permitted to resume outdoor burning in accordance with local regulations.

✅ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬:

- Open burning (yard debris, brush piles, campfires, etc.) will be allowed.

- Use caution and never leave fires unattended.

- Be mindful of wind conditions and have water or equipment nearby.

🚒 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭! Even though the ban is lifted, responsible burning is still essential to help prevent wildfires.

We want to remind residents that 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐡—𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝟐 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐧—𝐢𝐬 𝑺𝑻𝑹𝑶𝑵𝑮𝑳𝒀 𝑫𝑰𝑺𝑪𝑶𝑼𝑹𝑨𝑮𝑬𝑫 due to the extreme risk of fire spread.

Already this year, fire department crews have responded to 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 that started from w**d burning activities, including 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 that caused serious property damage.

🔥 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰:

✅ 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥? Yes, technically. Propane torch w**d burning is allowed during a Stage 2 burn ban under current regulations.

⚠️ 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞? Not necessarily. Even in controlled conditions, these flames can ignite dry grass, mulch, fences, and nearby structures in seconds.

💥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬: If your fire escapes and damages a neighbor’s property, you could be held 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 for the damage—including homes, vehicles, landscaping, and fencing.

🔥 Even a small flame can have 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬.

We urge residents to consider safer alternatives like:
• Pulling w**ds by hand
• Using w**d whackers or flame-free w**d control
• Applying environmentally safe herbicides

Your safety—and your neighbor’s property—are worth the extra precaution.

These conditions 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬. Even a small spark can lead to rapid fire spread, and 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐲. This also puts 𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 at risk in surrounding areas.

🚫 Outdoor burning is prohibited.
🚭 Avoid activities that can cause sparks (grinding, welding, target shooting, etc.)
🔥 Use extreme caution with BBQs.

- Don’t park vehicles on dry grass.

- Avoid using equipment that could spark a fire (chainsaws, welders, etc.) during the hottest parts of the day.

In an emergency, 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 — and one of the easiest ways you can help emergency responders is by making sure your home is clearly labeled with 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 visible from the road.

- If your address isn't clearly marked, firefighters, EMTs, and police may waste critical time trying to locate you.

- Delays of even 1–2 minutes can make a life-or-death difference during a fire, medical emergency, or other crisis.
