Fake It ‘Til They Take It
Imagine answering your phone and hearing a family member's voice. They tell you they’ve been arrested, and they need you to send money immediately for them to be released from jail. You feel completely shocked, and you might immediately feel like you need to send them as much as they need.

But the voice that you’re hearing is actually completely fake! Cybercriminals find videos of your friends or family on social media, and then use AI to make a replica of their voice. The scammers then use the cloned voice to call you. They hope that if you hear a familiar voice, you will not stop to verify what's actually happening. They usually ask you to send money using methods that are difficult to track, such as wire transfer, gift cards, or cryptocurrency. Anything you send them is nearly impossible to recover!

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to AI voice cloning scams:

Set up a secret code word with close family members. Choose something that can't be found online and use it to verify each other's identity in emergencies.
If someone you know calls you and claims to need money immediately, hang up and call them back directly using a known phone number to verify their story.
Be mindful of receiving unusual instructions, such as being asked to send a large amount of money in an unusual way. If someone is in jail, it’s highly unlikely that they would ask for money to be sent using cryptocurrency!

Today marks the start of Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) training hosted by the National Sheriffs’ Association at the CHI Health Center Omaha.

Twenty-five law enforcement officers from agencies across Nebraska and Iowa are participating in this specialized training, along with members of several local county attorney offices who are auditing the course.

ARIDE provides officers with advanced skills to recognize the signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol impairment, helping them make informed enforcement decisions and improve roadway safety.

As drug-impaired driving continues to be a growing concern nationwide, training like this plays a critical role in identifying impaired drivers and removing them from our roadways before tragedy occurs.

Thank you to all of the officers, prosecutors, and instructors dedicated to making our communities safer.

Temporary Closure of American Heroes Park
The City of Bellevue has announced that American Heroes Park will be temporarily closed to the public beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, through 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The closure includes the walking path, lake area, and playground. This temporary closure will allow crews to safely prepare and set up for next weekend’s Bellevue Rocks! Riverfront Festival at American Heroes Park.

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as preparations are made for one of Bellevue’s premier summer events. The park will reopen at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for a weekend of live music, family activities, food, and fun at Bellevue Rocks!

The Bellevue Police Department is aware of numerous complaints, both through phone calls and social media, regarding a door-to-door solicitor representing Fastwyre Fiber who was allegedly misrepresenting herself as an employee of the City of Bellevue.

Officers contacted the individual this afternoon. While she did not admit to any wrongdoing, the complaints received were very similar in nature and it became apparent that some of the sales tactics being used were deceptive to residents.

The individual voluntarily relinquished her solicitor’s permit in lieu of a revocation hearing and is no longer permitted to conduct door-to-door solicitation within Bellevue city limits.

We want to remind residents to always ask for identification and verify who you are speaking with before providing personal information or agreeing to services at your door. If you ever feel uncomfortable or believe someone is being deceptive, please contact the Bellevue Police Department.
