Structure Fire and Cardiac Arrest

Last night around 11:30, Bellevue Fire was dispatched to Assyria Township for a possible structure fire. E112 arrived on scene with no signs of active fire noted from the exterior. The resident was outside and reported smoke in the attic. Crews entered the attic and found smoke with no active flames. Thermal imaging cameras were used to locate significant heat signatures in the attic of the living room. The crew began pulling down ceiling material and found smoldering cellulose insulation. The cellulose was cleared from the spot, and melted electrical wires were found running the length of the attic. Upon further investigation, smoldering cellulose insulation was found the entire length of the house. Crews worked to tarp and remove belongings and then shovel all cellulose out of the attic. The house suffered minor damage, with only a few sheets of drywall and all attic insulation removed.

Bellevue Fire was assisted by LifeCare Ambulance, Castleton Maple Grove Nashville Fire Department, and Barry County Central Dispatch.

While still on the fire scene, around 02:30, Bellevue Fire was dispatched for a cardiac arrest with CPR in progress in Bellevue Township. Some members were able to leave the fire scene and respond to the cardiac arrest while others stayed on scene to control the fire.

Our members were busy from 11:30 until about 4:30 am, when a third medical call was finally finished, and all cleaning was done. We cannot thank our members enough for their dedication to the community.

Sunday around 14:00, Bellevue Fire was called to respond to Convis Township for a brush fire. On scene, crews found a working brush fire with homeowners actively trying to contain it. Crews went to work extinguishing the fire, which had jumped into a fence row and was spreading fast due to wind conditions. Crews also found that, while trying to extinguish the fire, the homeowner had sustained significant burns. Marshall Ambulance was requested to respond, and Bellevue medical personnel started treatment on the affected burned areas and monitoring the patient while waiting for EMS. Care was turned over to Marshall Ambulance upon their arrival, and the patient was transported to the hospital, later being discharged. The fire was extinguished with approximately 3,000 gallons of water.

Bellevue Fire was assisted by Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority and Calhoun County 911 - Michigan

There are many trees and power lines down across the area. Please be cautious while out and about. Our members worked to try and clear road ways throughout the coverage area and mark downed wires. Please stay at least 25 feet away from any power line!

We were too busy having fun and forgot to take pictures!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of having the Bellevue 2nd and 3rd grades stop by for a field trip! During the time we split up into 4 groups:

Station tour
Truck tour
Smoke house
Obstacle course

At the end, we had some fun spraying water and sent the student off with some fire education supplies.

We enjoyed our time and look forward to future visits!

Last night, our members trained on pediatric medical emergencies and also got some pump training in. We worked on drafting, relay pumping, pumping through the rural hitch, friction loss and managing multiple attack lines at once. Our members were out late preforming these training exercises when multiple of them had to work the next morning with no complaints. We can’t thank our members enough for their dedication to continue providing the best EMS and fire protection for our citizens.

Personal Injury Crash

Yesterday, Bellevue Fire was dispatched for a personal injury crash in Assyria Township. E111 went in route with 3 personnel in just under 1 minute after dispatch. Based on dispatch information, Bellevue Fire requested to put a helicopter on standby and to start Johnstown Fire to handle the potential landing zone. 2 Bellevue first responders arrived just 3 minuets after dispatch and found multiple patients with injuries ranging from critical to non-life threatening. A total patient count was found to be 6 patients, 3 being critical, 2 being emergent, and 1 being non-life threatening, also with a car on fire. 5 ALS ambulances were requested by Bellevue Fire and to launch the Helicopter while looking for a second to launch. Dispatch advised that one Helicopter was in-route already from Kalamazoo and the next was coming from Traverse City. On arrival of other personnel and apparatus, triage was established for patient care and fire attack was initiated on the vehicle fire. Medical Command worked with Bellevue Command and determined that it was quicker to transport via ground than wait for the second helicopter from Traverse City. The helicopter already in route was landed and 1 patient was airlifted from the scene. The others were transported by ground ambulance. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families.

Bellevue Fire cannot thank our ambulance companies, Air Ambulance, mutual aid fire partners, police departments, and dispatch center enough for having a smooth scene in such a chaotic situation.

Bellevue Fire was assisted by Johnstown Fire Department Michigan, LifeCare Ambulance, Life EMS Ambulance, Memorial MedFlight, Barry County Sheriff's Office, Barry Township Police Department , Nashville Police Department, and Barry County Central Dispatch.

2 Structure Fires

Yesterday at approximately 18:00, Bellevue Fire was dispatched to a reported barn fire in Bellevue Township. Units arrived on scene to find a shed fully involved along with a picket fence that was leading to a house. Crews worked to stretch a hose line to extinguish the fence and shed fire. The shed was a complete loss along with multiple sections of picket fence.

Bellevue Fire was assisted by Olivet Fire Department, Charlotte Fire Department, Eaton Area EMS, and Eaton County 911.

Today at approximately 17:30, Bellevue Fire was dispatched for a reported barn fire in Bellevue Township. A Bellevue Fire member was returning home when he noticed dark smoke from a near by residence. He arrived to find a barn fully involved extending to a second barn. The firefighter was able to knock on the door and notify the residence and call 911. The firefighter then worked with a garden hose to try and protect the house. E112 arrived to find two barns fully involved and siding melting from the house. Hose lines were quickly deployed to protect the residence and extinguish the barn fire. Both barns were complete losses, but the house suffered only a few pieces of melted siding.

Bellevue Fire was assisted by Olivet Fire, Eaton Area EMS, and Eaton County 911
