Ofc Betts to the rescue!!

This morning I stopped by Twin Ridge Elementary to help ensure their new ✨awesome✨ drive-through lane was going smoothly. I was just in time to see the Bellevue East High School band playing some great music as they welcomed the Twin Ridge students to school 💜

I even heard that two of the East students are former Twin Ridge Bears. So cool to see the older kids helping the younger kids having an amazing start to their day! Great job, Bellevue East! 🙌

Bellevue Public Schools is back in session today! 🎉

Our Bellevue (Nebraska) Police Department School Resource Officers (SROs) are excited to welcome students and staff back for another great school year. All of our SROs are returning to the same buildings and are ready to fill the hallways with smiles, high fives, and a friendly face! 👋😊

We hope you’re just as excited for the first day back as we are! Have a safe and successful school year, Bellevue! 💙

Omaha Public Schools students, we'll see you next week!

Folks, we have got to do better.

Around 1:20 this afternoon, a woman caused a crash in South Bellevue. When Bellevue (Nebraska) Police Department officers arrived, they discovered that not only was she under the influence of alcohol, but she also had her infant riding in the back seat of the car.

We are so thankful that the infant was not hurt in the crash and that the other involved driver was ok as well. We are seeing too many instances recently of drunk drivers hurting or killing people, and tearing families apart.

In this case, a tragedy easily could have occurred, as the woman was over 3x the legal limit for DUI.

Please, PLEASE help us make our roadways safer. If you’re going to have a drink, don’t drive afterward. Use a ride share service or call a friend. It doesn’t matter if you “feel” ok. How you feel doesn’t mean you are safe to drive.

For everybody else who is making safe choices and not drinking and driving, you can still help by speaking up when you see friends or family trying to drive impaired. Do your part by stopping them from getting behind the wheel, or calling it in when you see it happening so law enforcement can try get dangerous drivers off the road as quickly as possible.

I am heartbroken over lost lives the metro area has experienced recently. Please do your part to make a change and protect precious lives.

This is the look I’m going to give you when I see you holding lit fireworks your hands. 🫵🏻

Ya’ll. I love fireworks as much as anybody and the 250th birthday of the USA 🇺🇸 is the best reason to celebrate with some colorful sky explosions, but for the love of steak and potatoes PLEASE CELEBRATE RESPONSIBLY!!!

💥No holding fireworks in your hands.
💥No throwing fireworks.
💥No homemade fireworks!
💥Sparklers and items designed to be held should always be pointed in a safe direction.
💥Keep water nearby and ready to extinguish flames.
💥Don’t put spent fireworks in trash cans.
💥Be smart if you plan to consume drinks and let somebody with a clear head light the fireworks.
💥Don’t let children be around fireworks unsupervised.
💥Keep your distance once the firework is lit… Terry would tell you the same thing!

The Bellevue (Nebraska) Police Department (and I’m sure our fire department friends) doesn’t want to meet you because you are missing several fingers.

Have a fun, safe, and amazing 4th of July! 🎉

On Monday, Bellevue West High School SRO Ofc Matt Vann was presented with the Innovation in the Classroom award at the National Association of School Resource Officers conference in Reno, Nevada. This national award was well-deserved and he earned it with his incredible work designing and implementing a course teaching high school students about the effects of impairment on motor skills and specifically how it impacts their ability to drive safely.

The Bellevue (Nebraska) Police Department SRO unit attended the conference to celebrate Ofc Vann’s award and also to learn valuable information about current school trends and vital updates about school safety.

Please join me in congratulating Ofc Vann for receiving this award! 🎉

CONGRATS to Ofc Vann for being selected to receive this award! I am beyond proud of the initiate he took and the work he has done to create this course, and I know students will benefit from it for years to come! 👏

At one school we visited recently, Tater found a produce stand. He saw pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, watermelon, and a sign referencing root vegetables, but Tater did not see any potatoes. Tater decided to join the produce stand to make up for the lack of potatoes.

Tater is the best dog ever, and we love having him as our Facility Dog. I’m lucky to have spent the last few months with him while his primary handler was away from work.
