Good information

Happy Saturday morning! Just a quick FYI … here are a few County Highway Department notices. As you can see, South 74th Street bridge repairs will soon be underway by the Norfolk Southern Corporation (dba: Norfolk Southern Railway). It’s a needed improvement but is NOT a County Highway Department project. Plus the Shiloh area remains a busy area. And routine maintenance continues on County owned roads throughout the County. Our County Highway Department is responsible for care, maintenance, and reconstruction of roads under the jurisdiction of the County. The County highway system is comprised of approximately 245 miles of roadways and 65 bridges more than 20 foot in length. We are not responsible for streets and roads under the jurisdiction of cities/villages, townships, or IDOT.

Day 2 of the Global Aerospace Summit is well underway. The day kicked off with some insight into the support offered by St. Clair County and the region to Scott Air Force Base and the aerospace industry. That was followed by Illinois Rep. Katie Stuart and the support the state provides for this important and growing sector. Now we are hearing from the aerospace leaders in this region Boeing, Gulfstream, and West Star Aviation. Great start to the day.

Kicking off the second annual Global Aerospace Summit. This two day event highlights the great growth and accomplishments of the aerospace industry in Southwestern Illinois.

In addition to its ease of use and great destinations MidAmerica also protects and supports Scott Air Force Base, the most valuable asset in the region.

The Allegiant formula of cheap, nonstop flights to leisure hotspots has helped MidAmerica lure passengers from beyond the St. Louis area.

Still, the airport operates at a deficit. St. Clair County continues to subsidize its operation, spending nearly $15 million in 2024, according to the most recent county audit.

Congratulations to Chairman Mark Kern and the entire County Board on the opening of the Belle - Clair Fairgrounds and Fair St. Clair. What an incredible transformation. The vision of the Chairman, the County Board, the Public Building Commission, and all that brought this dream to life is nothing short of amazing. Looking forward to a wonderful three days.
