**Media Release**
On Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 at midnight, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department 911 communications center received a call of a possible attempted home invasion in the 100 block of Lepere Court (unincorporated Dupo) and subsequent shots fired at the residence. St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location and officers with the Dupo Police Department had already arrived on scene and separated the subjects.
Upon further investigation, the deputies learned that the male subject who had reportedly attempted entry into the home was the ex-boyfriend of a woman who lived at the location. Information was provided that the male suspect was near a rear bedroom window when the current boyfriend of the woman exited the house and observed the ex-boyfriend on the property. The current boyfriend was in possession of a weapon and fired one shot but was unsure if he struck the ex-boyfriend.
Deputies searched the area with the assistance of a K9 officer from the East St. Louis Police Department and a Sheriff’s Department K9, investigators were able to retrieve a rifle that had been discarded by an additional suspect and subsequently located him as well. Investigators subsequently located the additional male suspect who had discarded the rifle and fled from the scene.
Interviews were conducted with all individuals involved in this investigation and on Thursday, June 11th, Investigator Benjamin Vise submitted a warrant application to the St. Clair County State’s Attorneys’ Office for criminal charges.
On Thursday, June 11th, Assistant State’s Attorney Tara Mendola issued the following charges:
Timothy R. Durham (29 years old)
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Criminal Felony)
Joe A. Chandler (36 years old)
Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Criminal Felony)
Michael E. Chancellor (29 years old)
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Criminal Felony)
All suspects were taken into custody without incident and are currently detained at the St. Clair County Jail pending further order of the court.
Thanks to the diligent efforts of the responding officers and investigators, several fi****ms were removed from individuals who used them unlawfully and recklessly, placing our community at risk of harm.
