The 2025 Bob Castino Memorial Angel Tree wrapped up today with a large group of members delivering hundreds of gifts to the BHS Admin building for distribution to the deserving families.
This year, the school counselors, educators and administrators identified 58 children, 21 families, from every school in the district, that would most likely go without gifts on Christmas morning. These kids and families are unknown to us. All we get is their s*x, age and their wish lists.
Those 750+ items are put onto the Angel Tree, and our generous members grab them and fulfill each and every wish. The large team of Angels help Carrie Castino log, organize and sort all the gifts. The member families gather to wrap every single item and then the guys load and deliver them to the school where that team takes over and gets them to the families in time for Christmas.
It is humbling to see some children wish for things as simple as socks and underwear, help with mom’s heating bills, a bedroom dresser, and new glasses. Of course we give them much more (bicycles, toys and books) in addition to those requests because no child should be unwrapping just those basic needs on Christmas morning.
Not only do the kids get their wishes, but their siblings also get gifts as well. The kids also request “family gifts” and it is humbling to see them asking for things that so many of us take for granted. Each family also gets a laundry basket filled with essentials like laundry detergent, cleaning supplies and paper products to help get them through the holidays.
The local quilting group “We Care” works hard all year to create beautiful quilts for each and every family. THAT is what community is all about! Thank you so much ladies!
We don't get to see the joy and smiles of these families on Christmas morning, but we all share in the love and joy knowing that there are 58 children and 21 families that will have a Christmas to remember.
The BYC Board would personally like to thank every single member family who did their part, large or small, to make this a record setting year for the Angel Tree. Bob would be so happy and proud to see this grow each year into such a powerful Christmas miracle for so many people.
Some guys weren't able to make it in this picture because they were delivering to Keystone but, they know who they are, and we all ask for no thanks at all. This is about being a force for good in the community and bringing joy to those in need.
I am so proud to be a member of the BYC. Merry Christmas to one and all!
