We're so grateful to be chosen as the beneficiary of Holland Construction Services' annual Klondike Classic Golf Tournament fundraiser. Saturday dawned bright, sunny and warm and 150 happy golfers hit the course at Stonewolf Golf Club in Fairview Heights. Later, at the awards ceremony we were presented with a check for $35,000! Thank you to Bruce Holland and everyone who made this possible. So many children in our community will benefit from your generosity. ♥

Our sweet Homer crossed the rainbow bridge earlier today. Homer's gentle nature brought comfort to the more than 1800 children he sat with during their CAC interviews. He loved greeting our MDT members and visiting with his friends in the building. Homer loved everyone and everyone he met loved him. He worked at the CAC for almost eight years and made coming to work extra special. We miss him. Rest in peace sweet boy! ❤️

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and today we met with other professionals who work to help stop abuse for our annual planting of pinwheels. Pinwheels represent safe, healthy childhoods and are the symbol for child abuse prevention. The pinwheels will be in front of our office through the end of the month. If you suspect a child is being abused, call DCFS at 800-25-ABUSE or your local police department.

Has anyone ever given you a birthday present for their birthday? Well that's what happened here this morning! Girl Scout Service Unit 201 celebrated their birthday by collecting gifts for us to give children when they come here. We love this! What a thoughtful idea from a great group of girls. Thank you Service Unit 201 ♥

The Rotary Club of Swansea held their annual Rotary Round-Up fundraiser in March and chose our CAC as the recipient of the paddle raise. The money raised will go to a fund that will help children maintain normal activities and provide for families' emergency needs. Normal activities which provide structure and routine for children are often stopped due to lack of funds in times of trauma. The funds will allow the CAC to help provide for these needs thereby taking some of the stress off of caregivers during this difficult time. President Ed Henrichs presented CAC Director Carolyn Hubler with a check for $15,700 at a recent Rotary meeting. Our boy Homer, who is an honorary Rotarian, looks on with approval. Also present were Homer's handler and dad, Jeff Parker, and Jan Baltz, CAC.

The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois Service Unit 201 held a "birthday party" with a toy drive for the CAC. The girls had a great time and ended up donating lots of goodies to the CAC. They delivered fleece blankets, backpacks, toys, keychain pop-its, claw hairclips, nail polish and much, much more to us. Thanks girls! ♥
