This past weekend, I had the honor of serving as the keynote speaker at the East Orange Parent of the Year Brunch, celebrating the parents and guardians whose dedication helps our students succeed every day.

Thank you to Superintendent Dr. Irving, Community Engagement team, President McPhatter and Board members, educators and school leaders, families and honorees for the warm welcome.

As an educator and a mother, I know the impact that engaged parents have on a child’s future. Their encouragement, advocacy, and support help shape the next generation of leaders.

Congratulations to all of this year’s honorees, and thank you for all you do for your children, our schools, and our community. Your efforts truly make a difference.

This Wear Orange Weekend, June 5–7, we join communities across the nation in honoring survivors of gun violence, remembering those whose lives have been lost, and advocating for safer communities for all.

Wear Orange began in memory of Hadiya Pendleton, a Chicago teenager whose life was tragically cut short by gun violence. What started as a tribute by her friends has grown into a national movement dedicated to raising awareness and inspiring action.

The color orange symbolizes safety and visibility, a reminder that every person deserves to feel safe in their home, school, workplace, and neighborhood.

Join me this weekend by wearing orange and standing in solidarity with survivors, families, and advocates working to end gun violence.

Thank you to Make the Road New Jersey, the ACLU of New Jersey, the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice, Working Families Party (WFP), 32BJ SEIU, and the elected officials who organized today’s important conversation regarding the situation at Delaney Hall.

I appreciate the opportunity to hear directly from advocates who have been supporting detainees and their families on the ground and working tirelessly to protect the rights and dignity of our immigrant communities.

As we continue these discussions, I remain committed to standing with New Jersey’s immigrant residents, advocating for due process, humane treatment, and policies that uphold the values of fairness, justice, and respect for all people.

Last night, I had the honor of celebrating the Lincoln Tech Class of 2026 and serving as the commencement speaker for an incredible group of graduates entering the HVAC, Automotive, and Electrical trades.

These graduates have worked hard to earn the skills and certifications that will help power our communities, keep families safe, and drive our economy forward. Their achievement is a reminder that education takes many forms, and that career and technical education creates life-changing opportunities.

Congratulations to every graduate, family member, educator, and supporter who made this milestone possible. Your dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have brought you to this moment.

The future is bright, and I cannot wait to see all that you accomplish.

🎓 Congratulations, Lincoln Tech Class of 2026!

🚲📚 It was a busy and rewarding weekend across LD34!

I was glad to stop by the East Orange Story Day, where families and young readers came together to celebrate the joy of literacy, learning, and community. Events like these help inspire a lifelong love of reading and provide valuable opportunities for children to engage with books in a fun and welcoming environment.

I also had the pleasure of joining residents at the Belleville Police Department Community Bike Ride, a wonderful event that brought neighbors, families, and law enforcement together for a day of fitness, fun, and community connection. It was great to see so many smiling faces and community members enjoying the beautiful weather while strengthening the bonds that make our towns so special.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the organizers, volunteers, educators, public safety officials, community partners, and families who helped make these events possible. Your dedication and commitment to our communities continue to create meaningful opportunities for residents of all ages.

I want to take a moment to recognize one of our incredible interns, Jerry DiLauri, for the amazing work he has done in our office. From day one, Jerry brought professionalism, compassion, and a strong commitment to serving our community, and his contributions truly made a difference to Team Morales.

As a disabled veteran and Master of Social Work student at Ramapo College, Jerry’s journey is one of resilience, dedication, and service. His passion for helping others and advocating for those in need has been inspiring to witness, and he consistently went above and beyond in supporting both our staff and constituents.

I am incredibly proud to have had Jerry as part of Team Morales and grateful for everything he brought to our office. Thank you, Jerry, for your service to our country and your continued service to our community. I know you have an amazing future ahead, and we will all be cheering you on every step of the way!

Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us that mental health is just as important as physical health. Every person deserves access to support, compassion, and care without stigma or judgment.

This month, and every month, let’s continue to check in on one another, encourage open conversations, and advocate for accessible mental health resources in our communities. You never know what someone may be carrying. A simple act of kindness or listening ear can make a difference.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. You are not alone 💚

Today, I stood alongside Governor Mikie Sherrill and fellow elected officials demanding answers, transparency, and access to Delaney Hall following deeply disturbing reports about the conditions inside.

We heard heartbreaking stories from families; a mother separated from her teenage daughter who is now missing her graduation, reports of hunger strikes, lack of medical care, and individuals who came here seeking the American dream now facing inhumane treatment.

We are also called to stand up for the humanity and dignity of those suffering right here in our own communities. No one deserves to live in fear, neglect, or unsafe conditions.

Silence is not an option. We will continue demanding accountability, humane treatment, and justice for every person detained at Delaney Hall.

This Memorial Day weekend, as we honor the values so many have fought to defend; freedom, dignity, and human rights, let us remember that those values must be protected for everyone.
