This work has been guided by a steadfast promise to honor all who served, all who sacrificed, and all whose lives were forever shaped by the Global War on Terrorism. Now, we're ready to share the initial design concept with the world.

Getting set up for volunteer training at DAV Ch. 24 Forget Me Not. We are training some our DAV Chapter members to be better equipped to discuss VA benefits and ensure the Veteran has all the necessary documentation before they meet their accredited Veterans Service Officer. The goal is to have the DAV in Freeburg open to veterans as a hangout for a few hours M-F every week.

Did You Know: The flag on the wall was flown at the Forward Operating Base in PhoucTuy, Vietnam in 1966. This flag was donated by Veteran John Carrigan.

St. Clair County - IL Veterans are receiving text messages and phone calls asking for addresses, etc. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will NOT ask this information of you via a text message or phone call. Please contact a VSO at the Veterans Assistance Commission of St. Clair County if you have questions about any message you receive from unknown numbers or suspicious senders.

Scammers use spoofing techniques in calls, texts, or emails to trick you into divulging your sensitive personal data and account information. This can lead to identity theft, fraudulent payments, or even VA benefits theft. VA has your back with improvements to VA logins and deterrent technologies!

Here’s what you can do to protect your sensitive data:
• Don’t take the bait. Scammers will try to confuse or stress you.
• Always disconnect the call. If you are not familiar with the individual calling you, verify the source and call back using a trusted number from an official website.
• Don’t click suspicious links in texts or emails. Log in to accounts directly through official apps or websites.

Veterans who suspect they have experienced fraud can find out more and report to the appropriate agency at VSAFE.gov or by calling (833) 38V-SAFE.

As we enter Memorial Day, please take a moment to remember our fallen soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen. Nearly every municipality in the county has a ceremony or parade to help observe this solemn day, please attend one.

This year has special significance as we celebrate 250 years of Independence and honor what it takes to maintain this freedom. Rows upon rows of white marble headstones at home and crosses overseas mark the final resting place of the real heroes. They gave the last full measure of devotion so that we and others may live free of tyranny and oppression.
