City of Belleview

City of Belleview Welcome to the City of Belleview's official page! We will post information about local events, community bulletins, official meetings, and more!

The City of Belleview was founded in 1885 around Nine Mile Pond, which today is known as Lake Lillian. Nine Mile Pond received its name because it was a pond nine miles away from the larger settlement of Ocala. It is said that Belleview got its name after the daughter of one of the founders, but that story has largely been discounted. Belleview actually gets its name from the French words “belle”

and “view” which mean “beautiful vistas” which can be seen around the town. The CSX Railroad Line running through Belleview along Baseline Road was an important part of Belleview’s growth in industry and tourism. A train depot built in 1884 sparked tourism and industry which included an ax handle factory, canneries for tomatoes and boiled peanuts, a saw mill, and a turpentine distillery. In the early 1900s, US-441 was just a narrow dirt road running through Belleview as part of the Dixie Highway, which was a main route for tourists coming from the North. In 1913, County Road 484 was only a well-worn bicycle path that stretched for 2-3 miles. As a focal point of our “City with a Small Town Charm” many events are held at Lake Lillian every year. During the winter months Light Up Lake Lillian takes place and the entire lake glows with holiday cheer. In the beginning of spring an Easter Egg Hunt is hosted, and in October an annual arts and crafts event takes place that celebrates the history of Lake Lillian and Belleview in the Nine Mile Pond event. Other events in the City include the yearly Christmas Parade and the Founder’s Day Celebration at City Hall Park, which includes food, vendors, and a beauty pageant.

📣Honoring Flag Day – June 14📣

Today, we recognize Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777. The American flag is more than just a symbol — it represents our shared history, our core values, and the freedoms we enjoy as citizens.

📌 Flag Day Facts:
1️⃣ The original flag had 13 stars and 13 stripes — one for each of the original colonies.
2️⃣ Today’s design, with 50 stars, has been in use since 1960.
3️⃣ Flag Day was first proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916.
4️⃣ There is a U.S. Flag Code that outlines proper display and care.
5️⃣ Local governments and organizations often hold flag retirement ceremonies to respectfully retire worn flags.

📷 If your household or business is flying the flag today, we’d love to see it! Tag us in your photos as we celebrate this important symbol of our nation's identity and resilience.

Let’s raise our flags high with pride — today and every day.

🩸 Today is World Blood Donor Day! 🌍

Every year on June 14th, we recognize and celebrate the lifesaving impact of blood donors around the world. This day is a reminder of how one simple act, donating blood, can save lives and support healthcare systems globally.

Whether it’s for emergency surgeries, cancer treatments, trauma care, or chronic illnesses, the need for safe blood is constant — and your donation makes a real difference.

💡 5 Facts You Should Know About Blood Donation:
1️⃣ One donation can save up to 3 lives. Just one pint of blood can be separated into red cells, platelets, and plasma to help multiple patients.
2️⃣ Someone needs blood every 2 seconds. From accident victims to those battling cancer, demand never stops.
3️⃣ There is no substitute for human blood. It can’t be manufactured, it must be donated.
4️⃣ Blood has a short shelf life. Red cells must be used within 42 days; platelets, just 5. That’s why regular donations are critical.
5️⃣ Only about 3% of eligible people donate blood annually. Imagine the lives we could save if more of us rolled up our sleeves.

💪 Be a hero — donate blood. Your donation is a gift of hope, healing, and life.

📍Find your nearest donation center and help save lives today.

🌊 Get ready to splash into fun at the Wilma Loar Splash Pad! 🌞

Located at 5615 SE 110th Street, Belleview, FL, the splash pad is the perfect spot for families and friends to cool off, play, and enjoy the Florida sun - we are the sunshine state after all!

As you enjoy the fun, remember these important sun and heat safety tips to keep everyone happy and healthy:
💧 Stay hydrated — Bring plenty of water and drink it regularly, even if you’re not feeling thirsty. Staying cool starts from the inside out!
🧴 Use sunscreen — Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) at least 15 minutes before you arrive, and don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours — or more often if you're toweling off.
🧢 Dress smart — Lightweight, light-colored clothing, hats, and sunglasses help protect your skin and eyes from the sun's rays.
⏳ Rest and cool down — Take breaks in the shade, especially during peak sun hours (10 AM - 4 PM). Overheating can happen quickly, so pace yourself!

Bring your towels, sunscreen, and summer spirit — the Wilma Loar Splash Pad is waiting for you!
