National CPR and AED Awareness Week

Effective CPR and early AED use save lives — and our region is committed to making every second count.

📊 CARES: Advancing Cardiac Arrest Outcomes in Pennsylvania

Our EMS Program Specialist, Patrick, serves as the state coordinator for the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) — a national tool used by EMS agencies and hospitals to strengthen QA/QI programs, identify trends, and improve cardiac arrest outcomes.

If your agency or hospital would like to participate in CARES and join the effort to advance survival in our region and throughout the Commonwealth, please reach out to Patrick at our office.

❤️ Why This Matters

Immediate CPR can double or triple survival from cardiac arrest.

Early AED use dramatically increases the chance of restoring a heartbeat.

Community training builds stronger, safer neighborhoods.

Together, we can improve survival — one trained responder, one AED, and one data‑driven improvement at a time.

This week our EMS Education Specialist, Ashley, along with her daughter Leah and Andy the Ambulance, traveled to a 4-H meeting to talk about First Aid! 🚑

During the visit, the kids:
• Chased Andy
• Learned when it’s appropriate to call 911
• Chased Andy again
• Talked about the importance of a first aid kit and what belongs in one
• Chased Andy some more
• Learned about Stop the Bleed
• And ended the night by… you guessed it… chasing Andy! 😂

Clearly Andy was the star of the show, but Ashley and Leah had a great time too!

Would your group be interested in having us come speak? We offer a variety of educational programs, and each one can be adjusted to fit your group’s needs. We’d love to connect with our community! 🚑

Every day, EMS providers in our region step into moments that most people never see.
Today, we're asking our communities to step into something too - shared responsibility.

Strong EMS systems don't happen by accident.
They grow when communities choose to engage, support, and stand behind the people who answer the call.

So today, we invite you to take one simple step:
Choose one way to strengthen EMS in your community.

Maybe it's thanking a provider you know.
Maybe it's volunteering with your local agency.
Maybe it's encouraging someone to take an
EMT class.
Maybe it's advocating for sustainable funding and resources.
Maybe it's simply learning your address, teaching your kids how to call 911, or clearing your house numbers so responders can find you faster.

Small actions create safer communities.
Shared responsibility creates stronger systems.

To the people of our nine counties: EMS is here for you - and today, we invite you to be here for EMS.

A nice article in The Express out of Lock Haven. This goes hand in hand with the theme of this year’s EMS Week Theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together.” It’s not just for our patients and those we serve. It’s for everyone.

Read it and let us know what you think or if you have any questions.

BELLEFONTE — “Routine” is a word often avoided by first responders when describing a call, and responders are trained that no call should ever be considered routine. Fortunately, many calls are minor in nature. Firefighters often respond to false alarms. EMS personnel have lift-assists calls, ...

This EMS Week, we honor the extraordinary providers who serve Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Juniata, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union Counties with courage, skill, and unwavering compassion.

Every call you answer, every mile you travel, every moment you spend caring for someone in their most vulnerable hour - it matters. You carry burdens most people never see, and you do it with a quiet strength that holds our communities together.

Your dedication isn't just appreciated during
EMS Week. It is valued every single day.

At Seven Mountains EMS Council, we are committed to standing beside you - supporting your work, strengthening the system, and helping advance EMS across our region so you can continue doing what you do best: saving lives, offering hope, and showing up when it matters most.

Thank you for your service, your heart, and your resilience. You are the backbone of emergency care in our region, and we are grateful for you.
