Big thanks to Liz Rose, Susan Jones and Mandy Barry with Logan County Board of DD for running our first Friday’s in the Park. We had about 35 kids show up for rock coloring and a scavenger hunt. Also thanks to Skylar and Shelby Mifsud for providing hot dogs, chips, and cookies.

Next Friday we will be at Blue Jacket Park for archery with Officer Doug Walters of the Bellefontaine Police Dept at 11 AM.

🚨 Reminder that today is our first “Fridays in the Park” event. At 11 am, we will be at Rutan Park with The Logan County Board of DD for a nature scavenger hunt and rock painting. Skylar and Shelby Mifsud are providing hot dogs and snacks to follow. The event is free and open to children of all ages. We are gathering at Shelter House #4 (Pickleball Court) at 11:00 AM.

Every child deserves the opportunity to play, grow, and be part of the fun in our community.

The Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund helps Bellefontaine City Schools students participate in youth sports and recreation programs throughout the year.

With support from the Bellefontaine Parks & Recreation Foundation and community donations, this program helps make recreation more accessible for local families and gives more kids the chance to stay active, build friendships, and create lasting memories.

If you would like to support the scholarship fund, donations can be made through https://secure.givelively.org/donate/bellefontaine-parks-and-recreation-foundation or by mailing a check payable to “Bellefontaine Parks and Recreation Foundation” with “Scholarship Fund” in the memo line to the BJRD office.

As Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of summer, our Parks and Recreation Department would like to update the community on a variety of topics..........

- Harmon Park is NOT open yet. There is real construction still occurring daily. The Park is not open for visitors until that is complete. We anticipate this will occur towards the end of June. We are excited to announce a grand opening, soon after, to celebrate the incredible gift our taxpayers have given this community. Until then, let's let the construction crews finish strong.

- We are working on bringing back the position of "Park Supervisors". We would like to place an individual at Rutan and Harmon (when it opens) in the evenings. This individual would be responsible to ensure the activities that are occurring are productive and appropriate. Ideally, he or she, would help organize recreation activities with our children that play in the parks.

- The Playground at the Peak was created for children 12 years old and below AND for individuals with disabilities. It is NOT a hang out spot for teenagers and above. We will enforce this rule this summer. We have lots of areas that are appropriate for our teenagers (The Pool, The Pickleball Courts, The Basketball Courts, and the Shelter House).

- We are looking for volunteers to serve as Park Supervisors. You can commit to as little as a couple hours a week. You will be supported in your efforts to maintain the parks our community deserves. Please call or text Rick Reed at 937-407-1039 to sign up.

- Fridays in the Park begin this week. We will make another post tomorrow to further elaborate, but we will be at Rutan Park at 11 AM this Friday with a group from the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities. They will be providing a free craft activity. Skylar and Shelby Mifsud are providing lunch for the kids to follow.

- We want to thank our Cemetery Crew for helping create the backdrop for a profoundly memorable Memorial Day Parade yesterday. Darran Conley, Tucker Newland and Dominic Trimble worked a lot of hours to prepare our cemetery for yesterday.

Thanks to everyone who shows up for our Parks each and every day. Your work is noticed and appreciated. Please reach out with any questions and/or concerns.

Please be aware that we are experiencing flooding all over town, including our Parks. Our Camp Myeerah staff is closing the Park with the exception of the scheduled rentals at the Lodge and Troop House. Please avoid this area, as it is unsafe.

A big thank you to the Ridenbaugh family for everything they do for our youth baseball and softball programs.

Therese recently helped organize our softball popcorn fundraiser in partnership with Hall's Country Kettle Corn,LLC , which raised over $1,200 for the program. We truly appreciate the time and effort that went into making it a success.

Thomas has also volunteered as a coach in our baseball and softball programs the past two years, helping create a fun and positive experience for our kids both on and off the field.

We’re thankful for families like the Ridenbaughs who continue to give back to youth sports in Bellefontaine!
