This afternoon, officers with the Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department responded with North County Fire & Rescue, surrounding fire agencies and Christian Hospital EMS personnel to a residential fire in the 10400 block of Bellefontaine Road.

The fire was reported shortly before 4:20 p.m. Upon arrival, officers attempted to gain entry into the residence; however, heavy fire and dense smoke prevented them from safely entering.

Firefighters entered the residence and located two occupants. An 82-year-old resident was transported to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Her 62-year-old son was also transported and is being treated for smoke inhalation.

During the response, a firefighter sustained burns to his wrist and was transported for medical treatment.

The St. Louis County Police Department Bomb and Arson Unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

The Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department extends our deepest condolences and prayer’s to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We also wish a full and speedy recovery to her son and the injured firefighter.

We thank all responding firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, and assisting agencies for their efforts during this tragic incident.

We also extend our appreciation to the volunteers who arrived at the scene to provide supplies and support to first responders throughout the response.

Please avoid the area of Bellefontaine Road and Shepley Drive due to an active house fire.

Emergency crews are currently on scene working to extinguish the fire and investigate the incident. Traffic in the area may be impacted while crews continue their work.

Please use an alternate route and give first responders plenty of room to operate safely.

The Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department announces the sentencing of Nathaniel Gibson following his conviction for his involvement in a violent home invasion that occurred on December 13, 2023.

Gibson received a total sentence of 57 years in prison and was ordered to serve 30 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections after being convicted of:

• First-Degree Robbery
• First-Degree Burglary
• Unlawful Use of a Weapon
• Resisting Arrest
• Endangering the Welfare of a Child
• Two Counts of Armed Criminal Action

This outcome reflects the outstanding work and dedication of the officers and investigators of the Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department. Their thorough investigation and commitment to seeking justice were instrumental in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.

We also want to recognize and thank the surrounding law enforcement agencies that responded and provided valuable assistance during the incident. Their cooperation and support were instrumental in bringing a dangerous and rapidly developing situation under control.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for its partnership, professionalism, and tireless efforts throughout the prosecution of this case.

Violent home invasions can leave lasting emotional and physical impacts on victims and their families. While no sentence can undo the harm caused, we hope this outcome provides a measure of justice, accountability, and closure for the victims and their loved ones.

On Friday, July 24, 2026, the Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department partnered with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri State Highway Patrol Aircraft Division, and the Moline Acres Police Department for a coordinated Travel Safe enforcement initiative along the Highway 367 corridor from I-270 to Halls Ferry Circle.

This operation focused on improving roadway safety by targeting impaired driving, hazardous traffic violations, and individuals with outstanding warrants. Through teamwork and a shared commitment to public safety, officers worked together to make our streets safer for everyone.

Enforcement Results (1700–0100):

• 125 Traffic Stops
• 4 DWI Arrests
• 2 Pursuits Resulting in Aggravated Fleeing Arrests
• 163 Citations Issued
• 28 Warnings Issued
• 10 Warrants Cleared Through Arrests
• 2 Felony Drug Arrests

The Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance regarding a large police presence around midnight in the 900 block of Lebon Drive and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Officers responded to assist with an investigation involving an armed carjacking that occurred in Illinois. Suspects fled from the vehicle after it stopped in the area. One suspect was taken into custody, and the suspect vehicle was recovered and towed for processing. The investigation remains active.

If you live on Lebon Drive or any surrounding streets, please review your doorbell or security camera footage between 11:30 p.m. on July 9 and 2:00 a.m. on July 10 for individuals running through the area or any suspicious activity. Even if you believe your footage is insignificant, it may provide valuable information to investigators.
