Last night the Belle Plaine FD, along with Chelsea Volunteer Fire Department , made good use of the interior attack burn trailer provided by the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau. This is a training tool used to create the fire environment while in a controlled manner, and gives our firefighters valuable experience in seeing and feeling what it's like when the flames are shooting up across the roof and the heat is intense. Providing overwatch through the evening was the Belle Plaine Area Ambulance Service and we say thanks for their time as well.

We love our air ambulances! They're an integral part of the package that is EMS. Here's a couple photos from calls and training with St. Luke's LifeGuard Air Ambulance and University of Iowa AirCare. We appreciate them greatly!

This afternoon the Belle Plaine Fire Department participated in a mock accident event at the Belle Plaine High School to bring awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving and texting and driving. This was a simulated head on collision caused by an impaired driver who was also texting while driving. The BPFD was joined by the Belle Plaine Police Department, Belle Plaine Area Ambulance Service, and University of Iowa AirCare. We all feel it's important to attempt to show some of the possible consequences of bad choices and this is one manner of doing so. We also say thank you to all the school admin and staff who assisted us in this event, they are much appreciated.

Belle Plaine Fire was paged for a house fire today at 7:04 am with fire reported showing from the structure. Upon arrival fire had extended throughout the home and it was determined that interior attack would not be possible. With temperatures hovering at zero this added greatly in making this a very difficult fire to deal with as nozzles freeze, masks ice over, and pumps have to continuously circulate. The time on scene was approximately 6 hours, with another hour at the station getting trucks reloaded with hose and gear, and refilling scba's. Providing assistance was Benton County, Iowa Sheriff's Office, Belle Plaine Area Ambulance Service, Belle Plaine Police Department, Luzerne Iowa Fire Department, Keystone Fire Department, and Chelsea Fire Department, and we are very grateful for them.
