THE GOAL: GENERATING AIRCRAFT. The 159th Fighter Wing conducted a combat readiness exercise that culminated in the mobilization of over 600 Air National Guard Airmen with cargo and generated aircraft to fly in a large force exercise with our Air Combat Command partners throughout the Gulf Coast airspace. Conducting a unit wide readiness exercise allows the Louisiana Air National Guard to stay prepared and ready to mobilize with short notice.

Airmen and Warrior Flight members of the 159th Fighter Wing worked alongside Second Harvest Food Bank in New Orleans to produce donation boxes that help fight hunger on May 29, 2026. This experience allowed them to make a difference in the community while also building stronger connections with their fellow Airmen. The members of the 159 FW who participated worked as a team at different stations that involved packaging and preparing food. Their contribution resulted in over 1,448 donation boxes, which are set to be distributed out to people in need.

The Louisiana Air National Guard Recruiting Team hosted its annual Career Fair Expo this week, bringing together more than 400 students from across the state to learn about the opportunities available within the Louisiana Air National Guard.

The event provided students with the chance to explore the Guard’s mission, discover a wide range of career fields, and interact directly with Airmen who are currently serving. Through hands-on engagement and real conversations, students gained insight into what it means to serve their state and country while developing valuable career skills.

Participating schools included Haynes Academy, East Jefferson High School, West Jefferson High School, Satellite Center, Mentorship Academy, Walker High School, Hahnville High School, Destrehan High School, Central Lafourche High School, Dutchtown High School, and Chalmette High School.

The goal of the expo was to inspire the next generation of Airmen by sparking interest in service and highlighting the many pathways available through the Louisiana Air National Guard. By connecting students with real service members and showcasing meaningful career opportunities, the event aimed to encourage students to consider enlistment and become part of a mission dedicated to serving both the state of Louisiana and the nation.

The Louisiana National Guard has a long and proud history of defending our Nation and supporting our State; however, the nature of conflict continues to evolve. Peer threats, non-state actors, and mother nature command that we look forward and adapt to meet imminent challenges. Success will be dictated by our ability to look ahead, and the Louisiana National Guard 2052 Campaign Plan (LANG 2052) provides direction and guidance as we lead the Guard into the future.

The 159th Fighter Wing’s Weapons Section hosted an F-15 Eagle weapons loading competition during the unit’s annual training at the Air Dominance Center in Savannah, Ga. on June 5.

The “Savannah Smack Down” competition brought together four highly skilled three-man load teams from various F-15 units from across the country including the 142 FW (Portland, Ore.), 144 FW (Fresno, Calif.), 159 FW (New Orleans, La.) and 173 FW (Klamath Falls, Ore.).

Since the early 1950’s, aircraft weapons loading competitions have been a long standing tradition in the U.S. Air Force, demonstrating the collaborative effort required to make an aircraft lethal in the most proficient time.

With a large crowd cheering on the teams, in the end, the 144 FW took home the gold and was presented two plaques by Maj. Gen. Thomas Friloux, the adjutant general of Louisiana, Command Sgt. Maj. Clifford Ockman, the command senior enlisted leader of the LANG and 159 FW leadership.

Congratulations to 144th Fighter Wing’s Weapons load crew in gaining bragging rights, prestige and honor as they outperformed their peers to embody “the best of the best!”
