Our Tactical Medics are proud to work alongside the Bellaire Police Department’s Special Response Team during high-risk and specialized incidents. These medics train extensively with our law enforcement partners and are equipped to operate in dynamic environments where rapid medical intervention may be needed.

The versatility of our personnel allows Bellaire Fire Department to support an array of incidents ranging from tactical operations and barricaded subjects to warrant services, high-risk searches, and other critical public safety events.

We are proud of the continued partnership between Bellaire FD and Bellaire PD and the dedication both agencies show to protecting our community.

In honor of EMS Week, we’re celebrating our Bellaire Firefighter Paramedics and the advanced lifesaving skills they bring to our community.

Our team trains in cutting edge techniques, including using ultrasound in the field and administering blood before patients even reach the hospital. Several of our firefighter paramedics also serve on the Special Response Team, stepping into high risk situations and providing critical medical support when it’s needed most. Their expertise, dedication, and quick action help save lives every day.

Thank you to our incredible EMS professionals for everything you do!

Today marks an exciting milestone for the Bellaire Fire Department as we officially took final delivery of our brand new ambulance from Frazer!

This has been a long time coming, and we are incredibly excited to continue developing and enhancing the level of EMS service we provide to the residents and visitors of the City of Bellaire. We are especially thankful that this apparatus arrived just in time for EMS Week — a fitting reminder of the dedication and commitment of our paramedics and firefighters who serve this community every day.

Over the next couple of months, the ambulance will undergo final state inspections, licensing, and certification processes before officially being placed into service for the City of Bellaire.

We would like to sincerely thank the Bellaire City Council and the residents of Bellaire for entrusting us with the funding and support necessary to continue advancing our emergency medical services. Your support directly impacts our ability to provide high-quality care and reliable emergency response to our community.

We look forward to putting this new ambulance into service soon!

Meet Captain Shannon Benas. Shannon manages a crew of four firefighter‑paramedics on a 48‑hour shift and plays a key role in the Fire Department’s recruitment efforts. She also helps organize and implement department‑wide training. Shannon has served the Bellaire Fire Department full‑time for nearly 13 years and has steadily risen through the ranks to Captain.

A fun fact about Shannon: before joining the fire service, she came to us from the world of elite gymnastics. She was a member of the U.S. National Team and an Olympic hopeful while representing Mizzou.

Outside the station, Shannon is a proud mom of three boys. She spends much of her free time traveling to her sons’ gymnastics meets and staying committed to her own health and wellness to support a long, active, and fulfilling life and career.

This wasn’t your typical Fire or EMS training.

This was real life.

The kind of situation that could happen to any police officer, firefighter, or paramedic at any moment, being called to the stand, placed under pressure, and having every word you wrote and every decision you made questioned in a courtroom.

Today, our personnel stepped into that reality.

This training, coordinated by Commander David Cagigas, focused on preparing our crews for courtroom testimony in DWI cases, especially those involving blood draws. With guidance from defense attorney Samantha Harris and oversight from Judge Jerel Twyman, participants were pushed through a realistic, high-pressure scenario built from their own reports.

No scripts. No shortcuts. Just accountability.

Firefighter/Paramedic Alex Mejia and Firefighter/Paramedic Justin Howell stepped up and took on the challenge, putting themselves in the hot seat to sharpen their skills and better prepare for the real thing. Because the job doesn’t end on scene. Sometimes, it follows you into a courtroom. And when that day comes, there are no do-overs.

Proud of our team for putting in the work behind the scenes — training for the moments people don’t see, but that matter just as much.

Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing – Begins April 16 in Southdale Area

The schedule was adjusted due to recent ground saturation. Testing will continue through April 24 (weather permitting) in neighborhoods inside the loop.

This testing helps identify cracks, leaks, or improper connections in the sewer system so the City can make necessary repairs and reduce inflow and infiltration during heavy rain.

What You May See
• A white, non‑toxic, non‑staining smoke coming from manholes, vents, or the ground
• Smoke may also appear briefly from roof vents or, in rare cases, inside homes or businesses if there is a dry or damaged plumbing trap
• Field crews from RJN Group working in the area and placing signs near testing locations

The testing smoke is harmless, dissipates quickly, and poses no fire risk.

For schedules, maps, and additional details, please visit the City’s website. https://www.bellairetx.gov/AlertCenter.aspx?AID=Sanitary-Sewer-Smoke-Testing-April-13-24-133
