I’m looking forward to joining my fellow Tennessee school librarians at the TASL Conference 2026, September 13–15!

I’ll be sharing ideas inspired by my book, A Sense of Place: School Libraries at the Heart of Learning, Connection, and Belonging, as we explore an important question:

✨ What draws students to our school libraries?

We’ll talk about the power of library space—and how thoughtful design and arrangement can help create places where students want to learn, create, connect, belong, and simply be.

Our libraries are more than collections and classrooms. They are places of possibility.

I can’t wait to be Drawn Together with Tennessee’s incredible school library community! ❤️📚

What a fabulous day spent with the Tennessee Association of School Librarians! 🎉 I loved connecting with fellow Tennessee librarians during our virtual professional development sessions.

Some highlights included:

• What Students Actually Use: Patron-First Changes That Made a Real Difference

• Create a Library That Virtually Runs

• Law for Librarians: Navigating Tennessee Statutes and National Trends

• TEL Updates

While diving into virtual PD, I tackled some serious weeding. 📚 Today alone, I weeded 258 non-fiction books!

Get ready for a massive used book sale! 📖✨ I’m focused on refining our collection to align with best practices. Here’s where we stand:

• Physical Avg. Age: 2001

• Digital Avg. Age: 2017

• Combined Avg.: 2010

Stay tuned for updates and let’s keep pushing for a library that serves our students’ needs! 💪 TN Association of School Lib. Xan Brown Lasko Katie Smith Capshaw Kristen Caton Stratford STEM Library
