It was wonderful to have so many people come to HBSP on the Free Weekend. The playground was a fun place to be both before and after the free pancake breakfast today. Lake Michigan water temp was in the 50's, so it wasn't quite warm enough yet to swim in. Come back soon to enjoy being outdoors, to attend nature programs, go fishing in the pond or the Quarry Lake or in Lake Michigan, or to camp.

June 6th and 7th is Wisconsin State Parks Free Weekend. At HBSP on Saturday there will be the Learn to Fish event sponsored by the Grafton Youth Hunting Assoc with Warden Tony Young from 9 am to 3 pm at Puckett's Pond. Free lunch will be available and free fishing equipment will be given away. Sunday is the Free Pancake Breakfast from 8 am to noon at the Ansay Welcome Center. Donations that go back into the park are welcome. Enjoy strolling park trails and spending time on the beach. No park admission passes are needed for the weekend.

Thank you Steve and Joanne, the campground hosts for the month of May. Hosts have a variety of tasks, including cleaning the up sites if needed, cleaning the accessible cabin, selling firewood from their site, answering questions from campers, etc. These hosts belong to Friends of HBSP and have done a lot of volunteer work and helping with events for several years.

Office hours will be changing starting 5/21:
Fri/Sat 10 to 6:30 pm
Sun to Thurs 10 to 3:30.
Come on inside the office to get park information, maps, program schedules, buy bird houses or firewood, and shirts, jackets, or caps with the park logo.

On Saturday, May 23rd at 10 am to 11:30 am at the Puckett's Pond picnic area, Master Naturalist Tom Lenz will direct children in activities from the Wisconsin Explorer books. The free books, appropriate for three different age levels, can be obtained at the office entrance station. You can also pick up maps and information on park plants, birds, HBSP history and more.

Coming to the park soon? Water fountain by the lower parking lot is not functioning and has to be replaced. There are water sources by the entrance office station, by the upper parking lot, in the campground, and by the other picnic areas. Also, CocaCola would not repair the soda machines and are going to be remove them. If you did not bring enough from home, various sodas and water are for sale at the two gas stations just west of, I-43 about a mile from the park entrance.
