The Belews Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department Inc originated in 1962 by community members to provide fire protection to the Belews Creek and surrounding communities. In the 1970's the department pushed to began providing EMS and rescue for the northeast area of Forsyth Co NC. To this day the fire department continues to serve the public through response and community events. The call numbers have increased over the years and the department is ever changing to better benefit the community we serve.

The Town of Walnut Cove invites our community to come together on Friday, September 11, 2026, for a special 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Fowler Park.

This year marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001 attacks and comes during the year our nation commemorates 250 years of American independence. We invite you to join your neighbors as we remember the lives lost, honor the courage and sacrifice of first responders, and reflect on the resilience and unity of our nation.

The evening will include an invocation, Color Guard presentation, moment of silence, remarks from Mayor Nellie Brown and local elected officials, a Remembrance Walk, Remembrance Tree Ceremony, and meal service for veterans, first responders, and their families.

Please bring a lawn chair for seating during the program.
Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember those we lost, honor those who answered the call to serve, and stand together as one community.

The number one source of Home Fires? Your Kitchen. Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and injuries in North Carolina. Not faulty wiring. Not old smoke alarms. Your stove!

Here's the scary part: Most cooking fires happen in seconds. And most are preventable.

✅ Never leave cooking unattended: Not even to check on something else. If you leave the kitchen, turn off the stove.
✅ Keep flammable items away: Towels, curtains, paper, packaging. All belong far from the stove.
✅ Turn pot handles inward: Keep them from being bumped or grabbed by children.
✅ If a grease fire starts, DON'T use water: Use a fire extinguisher or cover the pan with a metal lid to smother it.

For renters and apartment residents: Discuss fire safety with your landlord. Know the locations of extinguishers and familiarize yourself with escape routes. Your kitchen is the heart of your home, so keep it safe! 🔥
