The Grattan Fire Department would like to give a update on what has been happening with your Fire Department.
In 2025 we answered 288 calls,24 training events and 12 general meetings.
In April we appointed a new fire chief,Chief Joel Steenwyk replacing retired Chief Lou Kirkbride after 40 yrs of service
We also added 6 new personal 5 of which are currently in Fire school which should be finishing up in May.
1 came to us with his firefighting certificate and Emt -B license.
We had 2 people take their Emt-B class and passed.
Also 1 of our new hired is also enrolled in her EMT-B class.
We also want to give a big shout out to Hilltop Sports.
They did a fundraiser this summer for First Resonders we were the recipient of there donation which was around $7,400 for the Grattan Fire Department.
With that donation we were able to purchase all the state required equipment to make Eng 4 a fully licensed medical unit along with firefighting truck.
We now have 2 licensed medical units.
Next we want to thank all who supports our yearly pancake breakfast fund raiser.
With the donations we raised we were able to upgrade our a/v system which replaced the one we had for 21years.
We purchased 3 large screen tvs,new computer system and sound system.
This was all done by our own personnel saving us around $7,000.
Also were able to purchase coats and hats for all.
We are currently in the process of painting the interior of the Fire Station.
Would also like to thank all the residents in passing of our millage enabling us to put on a full time firefighter ,Emt-B in April
Next a big thank you to all the hard work our firefighters put in to make this all happen.
And mostly to all the residents that support us and the Township board.
We also have smoke and co alarms available for residents free of charge. Contact the township office to schedule a installation if you are in need of them.
Once again thanks to all
Deputy Chief
Ken Brandes
Hope to see everyone at our next pancake breakfast on Memorial Day.

We stopped by Grattan Fire Department this week to drop off their final check from the fundraiser, and we have some updated totals to share…

After a little lag in our system, we realized we actually raised almost $2,000 more than what we first thought on Saturday’s live video! 🙌

💥 Grattan FD: $6,960
❤️ Belding FD: $775 (because each year, they’ll always get 10% for their special part of our story)

We’re just so grateful. This community shows up in a big way every year, and it never goes unnoticed. THANK YOU for giving, showing up, and supporting your local heroes. 🥹

Let’s do it again next year and the year after that! EVERY YEAR on the 3rd Saturday in July you know where we’ll be! 🗓️
