Vote by mail ballots, for the Annual Town Election on May 18, 2026, have been received from the printer. We have begun getting the packets ready for mailing and are working to have them out next week. Remember, once you request a ballot by mail, you can check here to track your ballot:
https://www.sec.state.ma.us/WhereDoIVoteMA/TrackMyBallot

If you would like to request a ballot by mail, the application can be found on the Town Clerk's website at www.belchertown.org. Applications do expire at the end of each year, so if you have voted by mail in the past, but did not submit an application for 2026, you won't receive a ballot automatically. New applications are required each calendar year.

If you don't have access to a printer, we are happy to mail out an application.
Feel free to call the office with any questions at 413-323-0281.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: TO KEEP YOUR VOTER STATUS ACTIVE, RETURN YOUR CENSUS TODAY.
Unfortunately there are still thousands of Town Census forms yet to be returned. If we do not receive your census, we are mandated by State Law: https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartI/TitleVIII/Chapter51/Section37
to send out post paid return postcards to each resident. This is not how we want your tax dollars spent. Help us save your money by returning your census today.

The second reason to return your census, is that it will keep your voter status active, which is very important as we enter election season.

Please feel free to call our office with any questions on the importance of returning the yearly census or on your voting status. We are always happy to help. 413-323-0281 Thank you

Census Reminder:
All residences should have received the yearly Town census form by now. If you did not receive one, please call our office so we can send you one.

It is very important to return the yearly Town Census. This is how the Town qualifies for both State and Federal funds based on the response rate in addition to keeping your voter registration active.

If you have ever had to complete additional paperwork when you arrive to vote, it is because we did not receive your census form and the voter status was changed to "inactive", necessitating the completion of a continuous residence form. Returning the census keeps your voter status active.

If you do not vote in two consecutive federal elections while you’re inactive, meaning that we did not receive any response to 8 reminders nor any voter activity in 4 years, you will no longer be registered to vote and will need to re-register.

In addition, returning your census now will avoid a second notice. We are required by law, to send each individual (not household) who does not respond to the initial census, a postpaid return postcard to be signed and returned, indicating if the resident is still in Town. The unfortunate part, is that this is at a cost to the Town, after already spending nearly $8,000 to send out the initial mailing. Help us keep the cost down for the second mailing, by returning your census today.

Thank you and please feel free to give us a call at 413-323-0281 with any questions, we are happy to help.

Dog Licensing Reminder:
Per the Town By-laws, all dogs over the age of 6 months must be licensed by January 31st each year.
The first level of late fees began on February 3rd, and is now at $10 per dog plus the license fee.
Second level of late fees begin on March 1st at $30 per dog plus license fee.

By now, multiple reminders have been sent out since early December, in addition to the reminder in the yearly census. If we have your email, you have also received multiple emails. We are mailing out over 250 reminders next week as well.

Please license ASAP to avoid the $30 late fee. We don't like having to collect it, as much as you don't like having to pay it, however, the fees are laid out in the Town By-laws, and we have tried our best with the reminders.

Please let us know if you no longer have your dog so we can update the records and call us at 413-323-0281 with any questions.
Thank you

Dog Licensing Reminder:
All dogs over the age of 6 months must be licensed by January 31st each year.
This year, with it falling on a weekend, we have extended the late fee starting until February 3rd.
Please license now to avoid any late fee. You can leave your information and payment in the drop box over the weekend and we will process on Monday. You can also license online over the weekend. If you need your account number and password, please call the Town Clerk's office before 5pm today at 413-323-0281.

Avoid the fine license on time!

Quick reminder - All dogs over the age of 6 months must be licensed by January 31st per Town By-Law. We still have over 1500 unlicensed dogs in Town.

Beginning Feb 1st, there will be an additional $10 late fee per dog, added to the licensing fee.

Licensing can be done in person, by mail, using the drop box or online.

Please license on time and avoid the fine!

All residents should be starting to receive their 2026 census forms by mail. You will note, as a courtesy, a vote by mail application was included on the back of the dog licensing form. The vote by mail application is completely optional, not mandatory. If you need more than one form, you can print one from the Town Clerk's webpage https://www.belchertown.org/482/Vote-By-Mail-Early-Voting or we have some here in the office. Please only use one form per voter.

Please try to return your census just as soon as possible. You can drop them in the drop box here at Town Hall, 24/7. By maintaining an accurate count of residents, it helps the town to receive as much funding from the State/Federal funds as possible. If we don't have an accurate count, we could be leaving money on the table.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Town Clerk's office at 413-323-0281 and we are happy to help.

The 2026 dog licensing reminder email was sent out this week. If you have not received a reminder, this means we do not have an updated email address for your account. Feel free to email [email protected] with your current email address and we will be happy to forward you the renewal form.

If you do not wish to use the email reminder system, a dog licensing application is being included in the yearly census, which is set to hit mailboxes early January, which will still give plenty of time to license before January 31st.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or 413-323-0281.
