Today sure was HOT, HOT, HOT, and it's only going to get hotter from here!

With temperatures on the rise, now is a good time to remember that the inside of a vehicle can heat up very fast. In just a few minutes, temperatures can climb by nearly 20 degrees, turning your "quick errand" into a dangerous situation for a pet left behind.

Local laws state animals cannot be left in a vehicle when the temperature is 70 degrees or higher. Heatstroke can happen in a matter of minutes, so please leave your furry friends at home whenever possible!

And if you see an animal locked inside a hot vehicle, don't break the windows. Instead, call us so we can respond and handle the situation safely.

We hope everyone stays safe AND cool out there!

It's a beautiful day for the run, and you know what that means...it's time for the Torch Run!

This annual run brings law enforcement agencies from across the State together in support of Special Olympics Maryland. This morning, we had the honor of participating in the Harford County leg of the run, which began in Havre de Grace.

We'd like to thank everyone who came out to run, cheer us on, or show their support along the route. Your encouragement helps make this event special year after year.

We're proud to stand alongside our fellow law enforcement partners and Special Olympics athletes in support of such an incredible cause.

Today we honor the life and sacrifice of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office’s first fallen hero, Deputy Frank Bateman, who lost his life 127 years ago today.

In 1899, Deputy Bateman was shot while attempting to apprehend a wanted fugitive. Though gravely wounded, he returned fire and stopped the threat. His actions and ultimate sacrifice marked the first line-of-duty death in the history of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

More than a century later, we continue to remember and honor Deputy Bateman’s courage, service, and sacrifice. No matter how many years pass, his legacy will never be forgotten.

Thank you to our community members for their patience this morning as we responded to a crash at the intersection of Rt. 1 and Tollgate Rd., in Bel Air. Along with Maryland State Police, Bel Air PD, and multiple fire companies, we were dispatched at 8:22 a.m. for a crash involving a Harford County ambulance and four other vehicles.

While aviation was initially requested, once all occupants were safely out of their vehicles, it was determined that all injuries were non-life-threatening. Three community members were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. EMS personnel and the patient who had been in the ambulance, at the time of the crash, were also evaluated at a local hospital.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation, as all crashes involving County vehicles fall under our responsibility.

Firearm Theft Suspect Arrested After Boarding Harford Transit Bus, Stolen Handgun and Additional Illegal Fi****ms Recovered

[June 9, 2026 Edgewood, MD] The Harford County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) safely apprehended a suspect on a Harford Transit bus just one day after a handgun was reported stolen, leading to the recovery of multiple illegal fi****ms.

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, deputies from the Southern Precinct responded to the 1800 block of Harbinger Trail in Edgewood for a reported firearm theft. Through investigative efforts, deputies identified 18-year‑old Elijah Nana Djan Bonse as the suspect and obtained related search warrants.

On June 5, 2026, members of the HCSO Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) conducted surveillance to locate Bonse. During their operation, deputies observed him board a Harford Transit bus, where he remained under close monitoring as he traveled to the Aberdeen MARC Train Station in an effort to board a train to Baltimore. CSU deputies safely detained Bonse as he exited the bus, ensuring no risk to transit passengers or the public. A search of his person resulted in the recovery of a handgun optic (commonly known as a red dot sight).

Following the arrest, deputies, along with the CSU and additional members of the Special Operations Division, executed a court ordered search warrant at Bonse’s residence in the 1500 block of Harford Square Drive. Investigators recovered the stolen handgun, a rifle with an obliterated serial number, loaded magazines, and additional ammunition.

Bonse was transported to the Harford County Detention Center, where he was charged with multiple firearm‑related offenses and held without bail.

A Statement from Sheriff Jeffrey R. Gahler:

This morning, a scene unfolded in Baltimore County that is occurring far too often across our Nation. Law enforcement officers are carrying out their sworn duty, protecting and serving their communities, when they become the victims of senseless and violent attacks. This is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.

To our brothers and sisters of the Baltimore County Police Department, we stand with you as you support your injured officer, fellow personnel, and their families during this difficult time.

To the brave officer injured this morning, we extend our thoughts and prayers for a full and speedy recovery. We need dedicated men and women like you who answer the call to serve and protect.

To the innocent citizen who was also injured, please know that the members of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office are keeping you in our thoughts and wishing you a complete recovery as well.

Today serves as a reminder of the dangerous job our law enforcement officers do every day to keep our communities safe. They carry out this responsibility with courage, honor, and integrity, and we are grateful for their service.
