Local reporting has raised important questions regarding the independent candidate in District 7, and we believe our community deserves clarity.

However, when the integrity of the race is at stake, providing clarity is essential to our mission. We stand for transparency, progress, and the democratic process. Let’s keep the focus on the candidates who are working for the future of Wicomico County.

The Democratic Central Committee is aware of local reporting highlighting concerning alleged behavior of the Independent candidate in the District 7 County Council race. First, we want to reiterate our support for the women in our community, who are an integral backbone to our County, and should be treated with respect. As a party, we strongly condemn any behavior towards women that is disrespectful, demeaning, abusive, or exploitative in any form.

Second: let us be crystal clear in this statement. There is only one Democrat running in the District 7 Council race. There is only one candidate in the District 7 Council race that has our support. There is only one candidate that has always stood with the Democratic Party. Her name is Megan Outten.

Anyone who says differently is misrepresenting themselves, undermining our party, and ultimately helping preserve a Republican majority on the County Council. We will not allow confusion or misinformation to stand. Our voters deserve honesty, and our party stands firmly behind our Democratic nominee Megan Outten.
