Here is another rug that I fabricated this past week. It turned out really sharp! The center (Field) is a black & white printed rug, with a 1-1/2" white border, then a 4-1/2" black border. All the edges have been carved. The rug is a 6 foot x 9 foot elongated octagon.

I have been making these rugs with stock that I have at my workshop, but please keep in mind that I can easily design & fabricate a rug just for YOU, using your design and/or ideas.

I had a couple slow days this week, so I decided to be productive with my down-time. I’ve been wanting to make a nautical themed rug, so here it is! I’m sure someone can use a nice rug like this for a foyer/entrance, or maybe even on a boat!

It’s a 5 foot circle, custom, hand carved rug. The anchor is actually a dark navy blue, but the camera kinda makes it look black. I attached a non-skid cushion to the back. Yes, it is for sale!

Keep in mind, if you like this, but think it would look nice in a different color, or something other than an anchor inserted, or almost any idea, I can make it happen. The only obstacle in designing & creating these rugs is creativity!

Wow, what a weekend it has been! This is week 2 of the Maryland State Home & Garden Show at Timonium Fair Grounds. I'm really enjoying my rookie year of being a vendor here. Along with getting many good leads on future jobs, (which is the real reason for being here) I have learned so much about explaining the process of how I do what I do. It's not an easy process, but I've learned how to break it down to layman's terms, so it can be more easily understood before one's eyes glaze over! I have received many compliments on my work, and while it may not bring in any revenue, it sure does bolster my self-confidence. I have had MANY friends and family stop by my booth, which is waaay in the back corner of the Cow Palace, and I am very grateful for each person who has stopped by. I was honored to meet & get a picture with Kevin O'Connor, who is the long-standing host of "This Old House. My best man/best buddy, Tom Karcher has been absolutely amazing. He has come out each day of this show to hang out with me. Last week, he left the show on Saturday night at 8PM, stopped at Walmart and picked up 2 shirts, took them to his daughter's house, and printed my company name on them! He snuck them onto the podium at my booth the next morning & totally blew me away. I am beyond grateful for his caring & compassion. Jan Berglow, the beautiful soul whose company I purchased has come out to this show the past 2 Saturdays to help me obtain leads. We've talked and laughed & enjoyed each other's company. She has really been a huge help. She has been a fine mentor to me as I continue to learn my craft. And the cherry on top has been the staff at the show. I have had a great relationship with them, and I took time out to let them know how much I appreciated how they made me feel welcome at the show. Tonight, before we packed up, they came by and gave me the "Happiest Vendor Of The Night" award! How cool is that! And the hot fudge on top of that cherry has been to have my wife come out to the show to see my set-up. I've also been sharing my stories each day with her. She has been my biggest cheerleader & I couldn't be more happy about that! And I still have tomorrow to go.... Bring it on!!!

Just a reminder... I'll be set up at this year's Maryland Home & Garden Show this weekend & next weekend. My booth is in the back left, right by the main stage. Booth 704. I'll be showing off work from my offshoot company, Carpets by Design. I'm really excited to be there!

*BIG NEWS!**
I am going to be a vendor at this year's Maryland Home & Garden Show at Timonium Fair Grounds! I'm really excited to have this opportunity. When I purchased Carpets By Design from Jan Berglowe, she told me this was an important event for me to be a part of. I haven't been able to do them thus far, and thanks to her help, I am doing it! Look for me at Booth #704. We're setting the booth up in my workshop today to make sure everything is up to speed. I purchased Carpets By Design in March of 2021, and it is now a division OF Van Gogh Custom Carpets, so I will also promote the custom work I do through both entities.

Dates are This Saturday/Sunday, March 2-3, and next Friday/Saturday/Sunday, March 8-9-10. Come on by and say hi!

It's time for the first Van Gogh Flooring post of the year! This was a lot of fun to fabricate and install. My client likes color! She chose a striped, flat-woven carpet with different colors running through the stripes. To spice it up, she painted each riser a different color! And to really kick it up a notch, I told her that I could hand-sew a miter on the landing so the stripes hanf a left turn and continue up to the top of the stairs! The installation itself went really nice and she loves her new custom runner!

Just a reminder to anyone who may like a new stair runner or an area rug, I am in the business of selling & fabricating. I've even got a nice collection of stair-sized remnants that can be sold at or below cost!

Every once in a while, a rare opportunity comes my way. I was asked by the CEO of a local carpet company if I could take on a project for them at the U.S. Naval Academy. When I saw the specs of the project, I HAD to jump on it! They needed a custom-made, woven area rug to be hand-sewn, on-site. It's not every day that something like this comes around, and I was honored to make it happen. There was a little bit of stress involved. You see when hand-sewing a large rug such as this, I wouldn't know how my work looked until it was complete and we flipped it over. It turned out fantastic! Both of the purchasers at the Naval Academy loved it, the client I did the project for loved it, and I got contacted by the CEO of the company and got thanked for my efforts. I am very grateful for all the work that comes my way, but this just meant a little bit more, for just those couple of days. This was a very satisfying project to do. I had a chance to make a custom rug for one of the largest churches in the "Little Italy" section of Baltimore. This was one of the first times that I was allowed to wear the hat of "Designer" as well as "Fabricator." It was really exciting! There was really a lot wrong with the original rug that was made for the church, several years ago. The original lettering was out of square, the background (field) carpet was running sideways as compared to the rest of the carpet, and there were several other things my eyes caught. So my job was to make it right! I worked with the caretaker of the church, Fran, as well as the priest, who signed off on the design, the font, and all of that. In the end, we decided to run the gray carpet from the entrance into the inside foyer. Because it gets a huge amount of foot traffic, an industrial, outdoor-grade carpet was used. I've made many rugs, but this would be the first that I've done with this material. After a couple practice letters, I was ready to go!
