Be Victorious
Scripture Galatians 5:19-21
Key Verse Romans 13:14

As we struggle through life with temptations and natural desires Christians are told one thing to do, simply “put on Christ.” If we make this something we do as we get dressed for our day, we will be making the all important decision of who we are going to live for today. Will we live in the flesh, or will we make the most important decision of our lives, living for Christ Jesus through us.

In trying to describe the flesh in many of my mailers, each time I think of different terms. I think however it is best explained as the natural part of everyone of us that wants to operate in direct contrast to the will of God. The flesh will usually rear its ugly head to challenge Gods rules for us. Paul best describes these rules in Galatians when he says, “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, outburst of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like, of which I tell you beforehand, just as I told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”(Galatians 5:19-21) Once we become Christians we bounce around between two different lives, the Spirit leading us to God, and the flesh leading us away. While some fleshly patterns will remain with us, we do not have to give into living by them, because we have the Holy Spirit living in us.

Since our two ways of thinking are in contrast to one another, conflict within us will erupt. We are in a real war that requires real weapons. God has given us the helmet of salvation so that we won’t surrender our minds to ungodly thoughts, breastplate of righteousness to protect us from the emotions of natural desires (sexual immorality), and the belt of truth, which will enable us to walk in Gods truth, rather than surrendering to the flesh, and finally the shield of salvation that protects us from the evil darts that Satan throws our way (Ephesians 6:13-17). Now we are well equipped to defend our souls from the Prince of darkness.

By putting on the armor of Christ, we walk in the spirit, we have put on Christ. By wearing the armor of Christ “we make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts.”(Romans 13:14) “No provision.” Have a blessed day, Phil

Needing Patience
Scripture 5:3-5
Verse Hebrews 6:12

If we find ourselves in need of patience we might just be desperate for God to intervene in our lives, but we first need to go to Him and ask for help, and today we will discover what the bible says about patience. Many of us have said or heard it said that peace and patience are the same. I have to admit they may be close, but the bible tells us that they are two different subjects all together. While some will continue to say the two are the same let’s look to the scripture to find some answers. To me the greatest place in the world to find Christian traits and leading a life filled with the Spirit, we need to look at what Paul says to the Galatians. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”(Galatians 5:22) in this scripture, Paul makes note of peace and long suffering, long suffering being the patience we need to survive.

If you have ever been an athlete and played organized sports, more than likely you have heard and know exactly what patience is. In sports patience is waiting and making a pass to someone that leads to 6 points verses 3 or even none in the football world. If you have found yourself in line at a game or in line to see the family doctor, you will see patience or the lack of in either situation. How? Ever noticed folks tapping their foot or just figiting like their meter on life is almost out or the little statement asking “is anyone working today” is a prime example of patience. These individuals may be at peace with their life, but patience isn’t their strong suit.

In order for our minds and emotions to produce patience we must first have faith because faith will give us patience to wait for God to act in our lives. God answers prayers, heals the sick, and blesses us in many ways in our lives, but when He answers, it will be done only when it is best for you. God wants to help us in everything and it is said in God’s time we get things done, I prefer to say He does things when He knows it is best for us. “Do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”(Hebrews 6:12) Use your faith for strength, believe in God, be patient; God will deliver the touchdown pass. Have a blessed day, Phil

Recognizing Evil
Scripture Matthew 7:15-23
Main verse Titus 1:16

In the sixties there was a well known comedian on T.V. that came up with a punch line that made him famous. I think it funny that he gained fame and notoriety over a statement that we Christians know all too well, “the devil made me do it.” We have all laughed at that statement, the thing is, it’s really not all that funny, but we all laughed till we cried. Now that I have gotten older, I have a question that must be answered, if the devil made me do it, how did he make me, and why did I do it? The way I see it is the devil makes no one do anything, he tempts us, then we make the conscience effort to follow him or not. This is the freedom of choice God gives us, He doesn’t want us to sin, but He allows us make that choice. We have to learn how to distinguish evil and to turn from it.

This may be much easier to explain than we think it is. To pick out evil in today’s world just isn’t that hard to do in most cases, but there are some areas that his doom is within an arm’s reach of capturing us. The evil that is best disguised is a false prophet. They speak as though they know God, and they twist and turn the “truth” and the scripture to fit a situation other than a real life dilemma. “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”(Matthew 7:15) Christ Jesus Himself took the time to warn us of the wiles of Satan and it’s a warning that is overlooked more and more often. Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruits and every tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.”(Matthew 7:16-17) So many people take this and compare fruit to children, and this is a good example, but if we know anything about the teachings of the bible we know that through the redemptive blood of Christ, every bad person could have a good child, or vice versa, I bet I could name you some. So what else are fruits? Our fruits are what our everyday life produces, our works. “They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.”(Titus 1:16) Only a false prophet could deceive you with such a notion that a child is someone’s only fruit or works. Be blessed, Phil
