What Does Caring for Kids/PCA – Lawrence County Do? We are a group comprised of members in the community that have a passion for youth to have a safe, happy and carefree childhood. We are focused on providing programming in the community that demonstrates a need and desire for youth and their families to foster a positive framework for safety, education & awareness and prevention of child abuse. Programs listed below that are supported from the funds raised from the annual Basket Bonanza and Chili Cook-off. It’s Not Just a Pinwheel but a Promise: This program happens during the month of April to promote awareness and education for the prevention of child abuse. Businesses and organizations in Lawrence County have the opportunity to plant pinwheel gardens out of blue and silver pinwheels which is the national symbol for Prevent Child Abuse. What a statement to see thousands of pinwheels glistening in the Spring winds, demonstrating that our community is supportive of every child in Lawrence County should have a safe, happy and carefree childhood. Lawrence County Community Baby Shower: C4K – Lawrence County participates in this event to provide infant safety education through resource material and a workshop to soon-to-be or new parents. Stand Up and Be STRONG: This program is a partnership with NLCS and Mitchell Community Schools in providing education and awareness to elementary children on the prevention of bullying. Books and activities are purchased from C4K – Lawrence County for 1st, 3rd and 5th grade students to help them learn appropriate ways to problem solve conflicts and open up conversations with parents on the topic of bullying. This program will continue to grow with the support of the schools, community and fundraising. Teens for Kids First: This is a service club sponsored through Bedford North Lawrence High School and supported by C4K – Lawrence County. This group does several service projects throughout the year and ends with a Puppet Show during the month of April for Second Grade Students on the Prevention of Child Abuse.
