Bedford FD took advantage of an invite to drill with South Salem Fire Department at their recent tanker drill. With our new tanker nearing delivery, it was a great opportunity to work with neighboring departments doing tanker shuttles, filling ponds, and drafting from alternate water sources! 🚒 Our Engine Operators recently took to the streets to put their skills to the test. To maintain peak performance, each operator is required to complete the Master Pump Operator course—a program designed to keep their drafting and pumping capabilities sharp.
As the backbone of any fire ground operation, pump operators are directly responsible for establishing and maintaining a continuous water supply. In Bedford, our team must adapt to various water sources. Depending on the location, operators may connect to pressurized hydrants, draft water using dry hydrants, or pull directly from static sources like ponds, lakes, pools, and community cisterns.
We applaud all of our engine operators who successfully completed the Master Pump Operator course for their unwavering dedication to keeping Bedford safe!

Balancing high school academics while taking on a rigorous 180+ hour professional training program is an incredible achievement. As a dedicated member of our Recruit Program, Juliette has put in countless hours of classroom study, hands-on skill labs, and field training to earn her EMT certification. Up next, she’ll be hopping on our ambulances for shadowed ride-alongs, putting her life-saving training straight into practice right here in our community.

We could not be prouder of Juliette’s hard work, drive, and commitment to serving her neighbors at such a young age. Bedford is in great hands!

This week EMTs had an opportunity to come and work on their skills. We don’t use all the equipment all the time, so it is good to get the chance to practice with them often to keep the skills fresh!
