Walking 4 hours everyday just to get to school is a reality for many children in the Philippines. Their dedication to learning is a lesson in itself in never giving up despite the odds.

BKP was at the Asian American Pacific Islander Celebration at the Museum of Science, Boston today (May 16). We gave away free children’s books to kids who decorated bookmarks to go with their chosen books. Thanks to Linda O., Ting D., Wena S., Enzo S., and Jep S. for manning the table, but most of all thanks to the Museum of Science and their AAPI Heritage Celebration team for the opportunity to meet, showcase, and learn about AAPI nonprofit groups in the Boston area.

From Oriental Mindoro to the global stage 🌏
At just 9 years old, Warren Wade Casuga’s historic win at the VII Copernicus Olympiad shows the power of early STEM education, mentorship, and opportunity. The future is bright for Filipino learners. 🇵🇭

A moment of quiet anticipation inside Rice University turned into a historic milestone for Philippine education as 9-year-old Warren Wade Casuga was named Absolute Winner of the VII Copernicus Olympiad Global Round. Representing the Philippines, the young learner from Oriental Mindoro dominated the Natural Science category and emerged as the top overall performer among participants from 16 countries. His victory marks the first time a Filipino has achieved this distinction in the international competition, earning him a gold medal and the grand prize.

Casuga’s achievement reflects not only exceptional talent at a young age but also the growing competitiveness of Filipino students on the global stage. Competing against peers from countries such as the United States, China, and Brazil, his success underscores the importance of strong foundational education, mentorship, and early exposure to science. More than a personal victory, this milestone serves as a symbol of national pride and a reminder that Filipino learners have the capacity to excel in international academic arenas when given the right support and opportunities.
