The nice weather is upon us, and so are the annual events on the Bedford Commons. Things kick off this weekend, June 12th-14th, with the Bedford Historical Society Strawberry Festival, and will continue with the City of Bedfordโ€™s Liberty Days, July 10th-12th, and the Bedford Rotary Rib Festival, July 17th-19th. We hope these events are a great time for all, so unruly behavior of any sort will not be tolerated and violations will be strictly enforced. Additionally, before heading down to the Square, we would like to remind everyone that all minor children attending these events must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Any unaccompanied minors will be directed to leave. This policy was put in place last year, and it will remain in effect this year. ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโ˜€๏ธ

Officers and Firefighters participated in a mock traffic accident for Bedford High School Juniors and Seniors this morning as part of the Criminal Justice Career Technical Education (CTE) program. As prom approaches this exercise is conducted to show students the dangers of drunk or distracted driving as part of the Prom Promise. Officers stayed after to take pictures and talk with the students more about prom safety. We hope todayโ€™s exercise provided students with a valuable real-world learning experience that will influence responsible decision making in their future.
We would like to thank Interstate Towing for setting up and donating the vehicles for the event along with Metro Life Flight for making a landing. Thank you Bedford and Bedford Heights Fire Departments for assisting! ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿš’๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿš

Great information from our friends at Solon PD! We are also receiving reports of solicitors offering storm damage restoration services. Please call us at 440-232-1234 if someone comes to your door offering repairs as we have NOT issued any solicitor permits.
If you work for or own a business that offers storm damage restoration services and would like information on getting a background check/obtaining a solicitor permit please call our Records Department at 440-232-7600 between the hours of 8:00am-4:00pm.

WARNING!!! Protect Yourself from Storm Repair Scams.

With the recent severe weather in Solon, we are receiving reports of solicitors offering hail repair for vehicles and homes. While many companies are legitimate, some are not. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has shared helpful tips to protect yourself.

After a storm, take your time assessing damage. Contractors and insurance adjusters will likely be in high demand, so patience is important.

If someone comes to your door offering repairs, ask to see their city issued solicitor permit, take their information, and research the company before signing anything or paying money. Reputable businesses will welcome the opportunity to be checked out. If they have no city issued permit, please call the Solon Police: 440-248-1234 and report it.

Homeowners should review a companyโ€™s rating, complaint history, years in business, and customer reviews before hiring them.

Helpful tips to protect yourself:
โ€ข Research companies at BBB.org before signing contracts
โ€ข Donโ€™t feel pressured to make quick decisions
โ€ข Compare multiple estimates before choosing a contractor
โ€ข Avoid paying in cash
โ€ข If payment is required, consider paying in stages (for example: after work begins, halfway through the project, and after completion)

The lowest bid is not always the best value. Make sure the company is qualified, communicates clearly, and has a solid track record.
For more information or to check a company, visit BBB.org or call 806-379-6222.
