The Bedford Safe Campaign (BSC) advocates that Gun Violence is Preventable and believes that we can all agree on this point. Gun-related issues sometimes inspire passionate debate and when the BSC learned that firearm-related injuries surpassed motor vehicle crashes as the leading cause of death among people aged 1 to 17 in the United States1, we sought to better understand the data, the causes of gun injuries and work to empower our community with strategies for gun violence prevention. Whether you’re a gun owner or not, we all have a role to play in gun violence prevention. When people with different beliefs and backgrounds talk with each other and find common ground, they can have productive conversations that lead to meaningful results. Let's work together to reduce the impact of gun violence and save lives.
The BSC is a joint prevention campaign sponsored by the Bedford Police Department, Health Department and Board of Health and over the next year will be distributing monthly messages about gun violence prevention. Outreach topics include:
The importance of having productive conversations about gun safety and how to facilitate doing so.
How to safely store fi****ms and prevent access.
The relationship between access to fi****ms and death by su***de and domestic violence.
Statistics related to gun violence and children, veterans, and older adults.
Future BSC outreach will be posted to the BSC website www.BedfordMA.gov/BedfordSafe and the Health and Human Services (HHS) page, as well as provided to community partner organizations for distribution to their membership.
