Thank you to the Bedford Fire Department for their recognition this morning of the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11, for honoring the four Bedford residents who lost their lives that day: Thomas D. Burke, Richard D. Lynch, William G. Minardi & George W. Morell and for giving the community a place to reflect and be together.

At the Town Board meeting on Tuesday, I shared the remarks from 25 years ago, from then Supervisor John Dinan and invited community members to take a moment today for their own reflection.

With respect to the press release issued yesterday by the police, please note that the report that the man who approached a child was identified to the police and "known" means that the parent was able to positively identify him from prior experience. He is not a friend and has no relationship with the family as people may have inferred from this language.

The report of a man inviting a child to leave a Bedford establishment with him is extremely disturbing. The Bedford Police Department, New York is taking their investigation seriously and released a statement this afternoon stating there is no immediate threat to public safety.
Please note that the flyer circulating about this incident was not issued by the police and while well intended contains some inaccuracies. However, fact that the same person has been seen interacting with children in public places on more than one occasion is true, and while not rising to the level of criminality, continues to be of concern. Police continue to be on alert and encourage everyone to immediately report any concerning behaviors to Bedford PD at 914-241-3111, or in an emergency call 911.
