Today, Pfc. Brooks, Cpl. Capehart, and K9 Zero performed a demonstration at the "Jeep Shine Em’ Up (or don’t) Show," hosted by the Southern West Virginia Jeepers and Rural King.

During the event, SWVJ-17 raised $872 and donated it to the Beckley Police Department K9 Unit.

Thank you to the Southern West Virginia Jeepers, Rural King, and our community for your generous donation and continued support of our K9 unit! 🐾

We want to thank the Little Caesars Pizza Pizza Paws program for delivering K9 medical kits today.

Beckley PD has three K9’s:
Zero, handler Cpl. Capehart
Vito, handler Pfc. Cline
Luna, handler Pfc. Amick

Pizza Paws is an organization that raises money which allows police departments across the state obtain supplies for their K9 programs.

This afternoon Cpl. Capehart and her K9 partner, Zero, visited with the Mt. Hope Public Library for their read aloud program. Cpl. Capehart read “K9 Mattis On The Job” to the kids and did a small K9 demonstration for them.

We appreciate the Mt. Hope Public Library inviting us and we hope the rest of your summer is great!

Beckley PD will be accepting nonperishable food items for Raleigh County United for Prevention Food Pantry. All donations can be dropped off at Beckley PD, 501 Neville St., in the collection bin inside the lobby area.

We will be accepting donations through Monday, August 31.

We are happy to announce our next round of Citizen's Police Academy. Classes will be each Thursday evening beginning September 10 through November 12 from 6pm-9pm each session.

To register you can come to Beckley PD (501 Neville St) for an application or follow this link to sign up online: https://beckley.gov/citizens-police-academy/

You must register by Friday, September 4, 2026 and our class limit is 15.

Thank you to Valley College for inviting Captain Jamie Blume and Sergeant Jon Legursky to speak with senior students in the Valley College Nursing Program. As part of the college's Community Health class, Capt. Blume and Sgt. Legursky presented an overview of their ongoing efforts to enhance officer medical training, knowledge, and equipment through our tactical medicine program.

Blume and Legursky also led a hands-on Stop the Bleed course, providing students with practical skills that can help save lives during medical emergencies.

We appreciate the opportunity to engage with such a motivated group of future healthcare professionals. Partnerships like these strengthen the connection between public safety and healthcare, and we value the opportunity to share knowledge across disciplines.

To the students and faculty at Valley College, thank you for your hospitality and commitment to serving others. We have tremendous respect for the work nurses and healthcare professionals do every day, and we recognize the vital role you play in caring for our community!
