** Long construction post**
With school beginning this week we have received many questions/concerns about Sherburne County’s road construction project on County Road 23. The attached map shows the detour route that can be used for getting to the school campus from the north or west if you or your young drivers do not want to follow the Hwy 25/ Hwy 10 detour. You will be permitted to use the small construction area to turn from 97th St. to County 23. As a reminder, this is a very active construction zone with road closed barricades. We need to let them get the work completed as efficiently as we can. This can be frustrating and it can add time to your drive but cutting through the construction area is illegal and we will have an extra presence there. The only vehicles that should be entering past the road closed signs are those that live on County Rd 23 (in construction zone), 107th St SE, 143rd Ave, Greenview Road, Ironwood Circle or those using City Park. Residents from the Autumn Ridge development are expected to use the detours. If you are in the construction zone for a legitimate reason there is a current speed limit of 20mph. The construction speed limit and proceeding around the barricades will be enforced and drivers will be cited. Bus traffic has received special permission to enter the construction zone, please do not follow busses in. Again, we understand the frustrations with extra traffic or longer drives but we need to let the crews complete their work safely and quickly. This week several workers who would normally be operating machines had to stop and spend a significant amount of time helping people turn around or get through the construction zone. If you have young drivers review the attached photo with them or drive the detour route you prefer prior to school kicking back off next week.

Looking for golf balls? There are thousands just sitting around for you to get right now.

The new Sandhill Park in town just got a bunch of dirt down to seed tomorrow that was dredged from Pebble Creek. What does that mean? There are thousands of golf balls littered throughout the dirt at the park. Parks and Rec staff would love to get them all out of there and encourage anyone to come grab them. If you are a golfer this is your chance to get revenge on the water hazards.

🚗 Parking Reminder — Youth Sports at the Becker School Athletic Fields

Youth sports season is in full swing, and it's great to see so many families out supporting our young athletes! With the extra activity around the fields off 3rd Street SE, we want to share a quick reminder to help keep the area safe and accessible for everyone.

When attending games and practices, please keep two things in mind:

🚫 No parking on the east side of 3rd Street SE — the shoulder that runs alongside the fields is a posted no-parking zone.
🚫 The Kolbinger Park parking lot is not available for school or sporting-event parking.

✅ Please use the designated school parking lots when attending events.

We understand parking can get tight during busy events, and we truly appreciate your patience and cooperation. These restrictions aren't just about the rules — vehicles parked along the no-parking shoulder create safety hazards for players and pedestrians and can block access for emergency vehicles.

Our officers will continue to monitor the area during events. Vehicles parked in posted no-parking zones may be issued citations, so we ask everyone to plan ahead and park in an approved lot.

🛡️ A Safe Community Is a Shared Accomplishment

We're proud to share that the City of Becker has been named the 10th Safest City in Minnesota for 2026 by SafeWise.

This recognition is based on FBI violent and property crime data — and Becker's results stand out. Our community climbed 30 spots in the statewide rankings this year and was one of only two Minnesota cities to reduce both violent and property crime year over year.

Rankings like this don't happen by chance. They reflect residents who look out for one another, community partners who stay engaged, and the dedicated members of the Becker Police Department who serve this city every day.

Thank you, Becker. It's an honor to serve and protect a community this special.

Yesterday we teamed up with with Becker, MN Fire Department and Sherburne County Sheriff's Office for some fun educational time in the park with local in-home daycare providers. The kids got to hear from some speakers, see equipment demos and check out our vehicles. Each of these providers have a special skillset and we appreciate the time they invest in our children and community.

We have received several reports that people are receiving text messages from the "Becker Police Department" regarding todays media release on the death. These are SCAMS. The Becker Police Department will not send out text messages trying to get financial assistance for families. It is unfortunate that we have to deal with this at times of grief for members of our community.

Text from the below media release:

"On August 22nd at approximately 2:05PM Becker Police were dispatched to the 11200 block of Laura Circle for a report of a male who had fallen from a ladder. Becker Police Officers arrived and began life saving measures. The Becker Fire Department, CentraCare Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care also responded to the scene to assist with medical intervention. The 75-year-old male from Becker did not survive and was not transported from the scene. Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office responded to conduct the death investigation, however there is no indication of foul play. The male will not be identified at this time. "
