Exciting news for Beaverton's Ross Lake Park visitors! 🚤☀️

We are thrilled to announce that a new Life Jacket Loaner Station is now set up at the Ross Lake Park boat launch area!

Location: Ross Lake Park – 358 Ross St, Beaverton, MI 48612

Thanks to an opportunity secured by the City of Beaverton through the Sea Tow Foundation, community members and visitors can borrow high-quality life jackets—free of charge.

How it works:

🦺 Borrow: Grab a life jacket in the size you need before heading out on the water.

🌊 Enjoy: Have a fun, safe day swimming, boating, or paddling on Ross Lake.

🔄 Return: Simply hang the life jacket back up on the stand as soon as you are done.

Please be mindful of the purpose of this station: these life jackets are shared community safety equipment intended to stay at the park. Always return them after use so they are ready for the next person—doing so ensures everyone stays safe and could truly save someone's life!

A special thanks to the Beaverton Lions Club for the hearing and eye protection for each student. And thanks to the North Central Michigan Wild Turkey Hunters Association for supplying each student with a hat.

BEAVERTON, MI — April 16, 2026 — The City of Beaverton is proud to announce that it has officially received a $10,000 grant from the Gladwin County Community Foundation to fund the purchase of a portable outdoor ice rink. This initiative, spearheaded by Chief Brad Davis, marks a significant investment in the year-round health and wellness of residents throughout all of Gladwin County.

The new ice rink will be a winter-season centerpiece in the Violence Prevention Structure, currently under construction in Ross Lake Park. This project is designed to provide a safe, structured, and accessible environment for sheltered outdoor physical activity and social engagement during the winter months, when outdoor recreational opportunities in the region are typically limited.

"This rink is more than just a local project; it is a community asset designed to bring Gladwin County residents together," said Shannon M. Sirpilla, Beaverton City Manager. "By providing a central location for winter exercise and connection, we are promoting the health and well-being of our entire county-wide community."

We will be holding a Hunter's Education field day on 4/12/26 from 9am-1pm at the Beaverton High School.

Sign up is open now.

In-person hunter education field day courses may include both online student and home study students. Students will need to present the applicable proof for either online or home study in order to be admitted. Instructors will verify the online voucher or confirm the completion of the chapter review questions in the student manual to allow them to attend. Home study materials can be picked up at Beaverton City Hall between the hours of 7:00am thru 5:30pm Monday-Thursday.
