Oak Hills is an innovative planned community developed in the 1960's with stylish mid-century homes, established trees, acres of green space and a school and recreation center at its heart. Oak Hills, already recognized by BusinessWeek as Oregon's best affordable suburb, is working to become the First Mid-Century Modern Historic District in Oregon.

Nothing better than 4th of July in Oak Hills. We will see you there!

06/30/2013

In loving memory of Charlotte Awe, original homeowner, who selected the site for her customized Rummer home in 1967. An active member of the Oak Hills, Charlotte reached out last year to contribute to the recreation center playground, donating 2 picnic tables (on kids' size) so parents could sit and relax close to their children playing on the play structures. Charlotte raised 4 children and cited countless hours of fond memories pushing her kids on the swings. A plaque on one of the tables reads: "Donated to the Community of Oak Hills for 45 Years of Fond Memories." Memorial services were held today.

Oak Hills is also significant under National Register Criterion C as an excellent example of a master-planned community that set an important precedent for other communities in the Portland metropolitan in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The
coherent and harmonious combination of clustering residential lots, open space integration, circulation patterns that balanced the needs of pedestrians and cars alike, and the architectural eclecticism are emblematic of mid-1960s land use planning and architectural design. The development also reveals the first integration of HA-approved townhouses into a mixed use development in the state of Oregon.
